Bubbys

"Save room for pie," the staff tells you, and it’s good advice, although hard to heed after a heaping plate of pulled pork, spice-rubbed ribs, Texas brisket, onion rings and macaroni and cheese. While Bubby’s Brooklyn boasts basically the same menu as the original in Tribeca, the view is vastly improved. Located in the waterfront Walentas Building (a.k.a. the clock tower building), the immense, two-level eatery is wrapped in large windows that offer an expansive view of both the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, as well as the Empire State Building, Woolworth Building, and the myriad boat traffic of tugs, barges and the Circle Line. The food is as comforting as ever — meatloaf and gravy, buttermilk fried chicken, and over 20 choices of sides — and children still eat free from the kids’ menu on Sunday evenings. The high ceilings and open area comfortably fit large, loud groups, making Bubby’s one of the few child-friendly restaurants with enough style and atmosphere to satisfy adults, so they can eat their pie and have it too.

Grimaldi’s

19 Old Fulton St., near Front St.,
Dumbo

718-858-4300

This noisy pizzeria was serving exceptional coal-oven pies back when Dumbo was still an elephant and no one made any special trips to this now-trendy neighborhood down by the bridges. A no-reservations, no-delivery policy guarantees long lines spilling onto the sidewalk

The hot chocolate is delicious and they offer all types of chocolate (including chocolate-covered cheerios).
