Dr. John Brennan

I highly recommend Dr. Brennan. He and his wife Joyce, who works in his office, are the greatest people: caring, responsible, reliable, true professionals. Their practice goes beyond medical issues and includes help with research of various treatment options available: birthing classes, parenting workshops, child care options, and many other things. They delivered both of my kids and would go for the third one just to have "brennans’ experience" again :)

Dr. Louise Chuu
http://www.nywomenshealth.com/general-ob-gyn-upper-west-side-new-york.htm
1090 Amsterdam Avenue, Suite 3A
New York, New York, 10025,
right across from St. Luke’s Hospital.
212-636-1130
Dr. Chuu attended medical school at the SUNY Health
Science Center at Brooklyn, and received residency training in
obstetrics and gynecology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.
While here, she was involved in clinical research that evaluated
external cephalic version. Version is used in pregnancies when the
fetus is in a breech position; when successful, it allows vaginal
delivery and avoids Cesarean section. Following graduation from
residency, Dr. Chuu went into private practice in Chinatown in Lower
Manhattan. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese as well as English. Dr. Chuu provides all aspects of general obstetric and gynecologic care.

Dr. Chuu is at Roosevelt and she was amazing at a birth I attended with her two days ago. She was like birthing with a midwife (except she wore surgical scrubs). She was incredibly mellow and patient. She encouraged my client to move around in a series of positions, de-emphasized the fetal machines and monitors in favor of really paying attention to the laboring women. She never encouraged interventions of any type with this birth and she was funny and fun to be with on top of that. She was so kind to my client and praised her over and over for the terrific birth. She is new to this hospital (and a newer doctor) and she has experience with turning babies to avoid sections apparently.

Dr. Vanessa Dinnall
Dr. Dinnall earned her undergraduate degree in biology at The King’s
College in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and received her doctorate in
medicine from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM), in the
Bronx. As a research assistant at AECOM, she studied methods for
determining oligohydramnios, or low volume of amniotic fluid during
pregnancy; also, she examined the effect of estrogen replacement
therapy on osteoporosis, a project that was part of the Women’s Health
Initiative clinical trials. During her training in obstetrics and
gynecology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, Dr. Dinnall was recipient of the
Arnold P. Gold Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000, was
named Berlex Best Teaching Resident in 2001, and served as
administrative chief resident in 2002. She is board certified, and is a
junior fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

I saw Dr. Dinnall based on some
extraordinary recommendations from my doula and a couple of friends.
Her office was completely disorganized: cancelling appointments,
rescheduling and then extreme wait times. When I finally was able to
see her I had an hour plus ten minutes wait. I queried a couple of
other women waiting in her office as to whether or not this was
typical: one woman said that she had never waited less than an hour
(and on that day had been waiting for 1 and three-quarters hour!) and
another said the same too.  When I saw Dr. Dinnall, she was pleasant,
warm, professional and caring.  I understand why women are willing to
wait to see her. When I asked Dr. Dinnall about the disorganization, she
said she knew it was a problem and had been trying to work on it with
changing the phone system and personnel recently, but admitted that the
waiting room times was due to her having unseen emergencies with
patients.  Having been to another OB/GYN, who, for 2 years, has never
been more than 10 minutes wait, I couldn’t understand this.  I went
back to my former OB and am so happy. (One solution to avoid the
waiting room delays: Dr. Dinnall suggested  making the first appointment
of the day or the first appointment after lunch).

Dr. Yael Fuchs

Brooklyn, NY (Park Slope)

I waited for 1.5 hours and didn’t even see her. There were even two people waiting in front of me!
-Erica

I was a long time patient of Dr. Yael Fuchs and regret ever going to
this provider. I do not recommend anyone see this physician. You have
to wait forever for an appointment, the office wait time is out of
control and once you see the doctor, you will be rushed. The doctor
never gets back to you in a timely fashion even if it is an emergency.
The staff is very, very rude. To top it off the doctor will charge you
for procedures that are supposedly not covered by your insurance, but
after submitting my claim to my insurance I come to find out that they
do cover it plus I was over charged. Don’t expect to get reimbursed by
her either if over charged.

She is wonderful, she will really sit down and explain things to you.
She treats you like an intelligent person that deserves a thorough and
intelligent follow-up from our exam.Dr. Russell takes a lot of different insurance.
-Laura

Dr. Russell is amazing- she was on vacation when I had my baby, but she delivered a lot of my friends’ babies and they said it was a lovely experience.  She does DNCs, abortions, and amnios- she can do everything and that makes you really feel cared for by one person.  Office is very friendly but expect to wait for your appointments. She gives you all the time in the world- which is why you probably have to wait.

Dr. Georges Sylvestre and Dr. Amos Grunebaum
Weill Cornell Obstretics and Gynecology

525 E. 68th Street Room J-130
New York, NY

Deliver at Weill Cornell

This office really tries to have you deliver with the same OB that you see throughout your pregnancy. You do go to a meet and greet where you meet the other doctors, but you aren’t required to see each of them for office visits.  Dr. Sylvestre offered to work with a midwife with me when I mentioned that I wanted a drug-free birth. Instead I chose a doula that was fantastic and they worked in tandem with ease. Dr. Sylvestre was very methodical and relaxed about the labor- I didn’t feel pressured in any way or that he was watching a clock for either personal or medical reasons. The nurses were exceptional. Dr. Sylvestre hadn’t performed an episotomy in 10 months before my birth! Dr. Grunebaum worked with me on my early labor and follow-up and was full of wit. Both doctors supported my laboring at home even though my water had broken many hours earlier- Dr. Sylvestre signed off on it even with major pushback from the Chief at the hospital. Dr. Sylvestre is reserved with an amenable, easy-going demeanor. Both doctors are European so they prefer minimal medical intervention during labor. New note: I am seeing Dr. Sylvestre again for my second pregnancy and feel reassured. He is not chatty and you don’t end up feeling like you have had a long visit like Dr. Russell for example, but I think he is extremely competent and skilled.

  1. I don’t have enough words to describe the way I feel about DR. EDEN FROMBERG. She changed my life, actually she saved my life and I’ll be eternally grateful to her for the rest of my life. Many years ago in 1999 I had the worst experience any laboring woman can have, as my childbirth experience was one of those terror stories that unfortunately many women experience in their lives. It is because of this childbirth experience that as a consequence, my vagina was disfigured by the horrific repairs I had after birth by a hospital’s resident. For two years I was in excruciating pain, could not have sex with my husband and even using the bathroom or seating was a challenge. I was desperate and every doctor I saw, wanted to do a surgery while charging me over ten thousand dollars and without any guarantee of success after surgery. I was desperate, depressed, in so much pain and without a health insurance so hearing this astronomical amounts from Doctors was devastating for me.

Then one day I found Dr. Eden Fromberg and I give thanks to God for putting this woman in my path and sent her to me. From the time she saw me and did an exam she was horrified at the extend of the damages I had because of the repairs done after my son’s birth. I think not only as the loving, caring doctor that she is, but as a woman as well she took my case at heart and committed herself to help me. I also told her I did not have health insurance and could not pay the astronomic amounts I was told for surgery.

Long story short, after two surgeries and many visits to see Dr. fromberg I was a woman again, the pain was all gone and I was able to experience intimacy again and feel like a woman as a whole. And the most amazing things is that charged me less than one thousand dollars, less than 10% of the amount any other doctor wanted to charge me.

Dr. Eden Fromberg is the most loving, caring and amazing doctor I have never meet in my life. Any woman she takes on her care will be blessed. And yes I found out that she have 1 court case and malpractice complaint filed against her, but considering she has been in practice for over 19 years and cared for over thousands of patients, 1 mistake in 19 years to me, the positive outweigh the negative a million times. I personally will never go to another doctor or let any other doctor touch me on my parts that is not Dr. Fromberg, she will be my Doc for the rest of my life and I’ll recommend her to friends and clients every day.

P.S. if you want to read my childbirth story you can do it on this link
    http://www.helpingwomenonline.com/ana_sola_childbirth_story.html

If you ever read this Dr. Eden please know that I LOVE YOU and I’ll be grateful to you for what you have done for me. You are the best doctor in the world.

    Sincerely
    Ana Sola

  2. I switched my gyn care from two abusive midwives at different practices in Brooklyn to Dr. Eden Fromberg at SoHo ob/gyn. I have been going to Dr. Fromberg for years now. She is kind, helpful, sensitive, and willing to accomodate costs as I am one of America’s uninsured. Two years ago she saved my life with early detection of a life threatening situation. She referred me to highly qualified specialists, was present at my surgery, and the day after visited me as the hospital food was being delivered. She knew I was a vegetarian and saw that the food I was brought was all meat and sugar. Dr. Fromberg made a special trip with my daughter to get me healthy wholesome food to eat, and then instead of having the nurses walk me around the hall she helped me herself. I don’t know any other doctor that would do such kind and caring things. She is amazing.

  3. I also had a terrible experience with Eden Fromberg several years ago. I was attracted to her “holistic” style. Unfortunately that’s not at all the kind of experience I had. I went in for a routine pap and mentioned that I had some clotting during menstruation. She told me she wanted to do a uterine biopsy and then in the middle of the exam, without warning basically just went ahead and shoved something inside me that hurt like hell!!! She did not warn me in any way shape or form that I was about to experience excruciating pain-it was absolutely shocking pain, that required several advil afterwards (and I have a high threshold for pain) and then she mentions to me I may have cramping for several days afterward. NONE of this was mentioned to me prior to the procedure- I was totally unprepared and felt extremely violated. I had come to her practice seeking the nurturing of a female practicioner and left absolutely disgusted. And to make matters worse, the clerical staff screwed up my insurance paperwork so badly I had to fight an office charge for about 6 months before they finally admitted that it was their error, and yes I had already paid them. Never again.

  4. Hi,
I’m looking for Dr. Dinnall. She has left the practice she was in to start her own. I can’t find her contact info anywhere. If you have any information please contact me@ racheljlederman@gmail.com
    Thanks

  5. Can anyone really recommend a good ob/gyn in park slope area? I had a miscarriage and we are trying to get pregnant again, but would like to change doctors. I would like to find a really caring and thorough doctor..

  6. Hi;
I know this is not the right place to post this ad, but I think since you’re all moms you deffenetly need a babysitter or a nanny to look after your kid/s.
So, in case you need one I’m always available.
Here’re some information about me:My name is Nesrine,a 24 yo mother of a 10 month old baby boy, a nursing student at CUNY and have a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from my country Algeria. I currently live in Downtown Brooklyn. I speak French, Arabic and English.
If anyone interested please feel free to email me at: senfly8@hotmail.com
    Thanks.

  7. I had Dr. Dinnall as my OB and the wait times to see her were sometimes as long as 2 hours. I would not recommend seeing her because of this. Also, she is no longer at Roosevelt.

Does anyone know a good OB in Brooklyn (Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, or around there)? Someone good with high-risk, but also open to drug-free birth?

  8. Dr. Georges Sylvestre and Dr. Amos Grunebaum
    Weill Cornell Obstretics and Gynecology

I have had a very good experience with Dr. Sylvestre.
In my first pregnancy he was very attentive and always answer my frequent calls and e-mails. It is true that he is not invasive type but that was perfect for me, a super-worried mom to be.
For the delivery, he was not “on duty” but he will come and see me between his appointments, give instruction to the nurses and as soon as he finished he joined me and stayed with me until the baby was delivered, around 9:00 pm. My delivery was not an easy one because the baby was facing backwards. Instead of rushing me to a c-section, he instructed me to make some excersises so the baby could rotate. All the time, he was very patient, relaxed, I got only one stich after deliver an 8.5 pound baby with 90% degree rotation, which means he was looking to my tights and the the shoulders came out vertical, not horizontally (he had assured me that he will do his best for a non-episiotomy delivery)
For my second pregnancy I was also with him (I kept him as Gyn after the pregnancy), the pregnancy was not successful but he was very supportive and call me from out of town when he got my message.

  9. does anyone know any high risk obgyns? i had preterm labor with my first at 34 weeks so i am looking at someone who specializes in preterm. thanks.

  10. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO DR.SYLVESTRE OF WEIL CORNELL!!!
I was about 7 months pregnant and asked him to tell me the approximate weight of my baby and he brushed it off and said this was not accurate(did not do it).
At abt 32 wks, I got bizzare headaches…I went into the hospital and they told me that I had to have an emerg, c b/c baby was too small..My baby weighed only 2 lbs!!Dr.Sylvestre was way 2 laid back and said ok to everything.I used to jog 9 miles a day..I obviously cut it down a lot and he joked and said it was ok to do 9 miles..He did not even encourage me to take prenatal pills ! On the other hand, Dr. Gruenbaum is excellent and thank God he delivered my baby!

  11. Hi there guys. I know this may not be the best place to look around but I am the Associate Producer with a production that is casting a Mommy to be in the New York Brooklyn area to be part of our DVD project about growing a “green baby.” The DVD is being manufactured by Gaiam http://www.gaiam.com, manufacturer of healthy all natural products and lifestyle products.
Besides being outfitted with loads of free green baby schwagg, our Mom will have the consult of our host, green expert Sara Snow http://www.sarasnow.com and learn about all of the great things that are out there for a mom who is looking to have a sweet little eco-baby! Production starts in about a week in a half and will film over the course of 6 days or so. Potential mommies must be available to shoot on weekdays. This is an unpaid spot, but as I mentioned, you will be compensated with fantastic of goodies (and I will say fantastic). Please give me a call or send me an email if you are interested. Thanks!- Melissa 925.323.2697; fuller.melissa@gmail.com

  12. Hi everyone!

    I need some help!!!
I am pregnant for the first time after two years of trying so we are very excited.
I had planned to deliver at the Roosevelt Birthing Center in NYC and work with a Midwife practice but last week I was told I have a thrombophilia so that is unfortunately no longer an option for me.
I feel a bit concerned as my intention had been to have a highly supportive, natural /low intervention labor and now I need to find an OB asap.
Of course I will do whatever I need to do to have a healthy baby and safe delivery. However, my hope is to find an OB who will be supportive and see labor as a natural process; someone who is not an alarmist and on the low intervention/cutting/operation side unless of course, it is absolutely necessary.
Any leads will be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks sooo much!!!
    Deb

  13. are there any female doctors at Weill Cornell Obstretics and Gynecology that anyone would recommend?

  14. I saw Dr. Josine Veca at the same office as Yael Fuchs. I loved Dr. Veca but switched doctors because the office staff was unbearably rude. My messages were not delivered to the doctor, or were often delivered incorrectly. Wait time was ridiculous and courtesy was nonexistent. However, if the doctor switched locations I’d go back. Instead I saw Dr. Samantha Feder at Columbus Circle (and her 2 partners) who were far away but professional and I liked all 3.

  15. I also had a terrible experience with Yale Fuchs. She was rude and in sensative. She did not tell me that her partner would deliver my baby.

I am now seeing Dr. Russell and am very happy with her and look forward to a peaceful birth in May.

  16. I had a terrible experience as a patient of Dr. Eden Fromberg’s. She was the worst doctor I have ever been to, and I do not say this casually. In 2003 I saw her in Park Slope and she did a biopsy and was completely unavailable to give me my test results. The rule was that I had to get the results from her, not another doctor. It took me three weeks to track her down to tell me the results, which I was extremely worried about that whole time. When I got angry with her on the phone about all of this, my anger came out in tears. She got very impatient with me, yelled at me, and then said to me, in a very insulting tone of voice “you obviously have problems and should be seeing a psychiatrist” before she hung up on me. I, of course, never went back to her.

  17. I was a long time patient of Dr. Yael Fuchs and regret ever going to this provider. I do not recommend anyone see this physician. You have to wait forever for an appointment, the office wait time is out of control and once you see the doctor, you will be rushed. The doctor never gets back to you in a timely fashion even if it is an emergency. The staff is very, very rude. To top it off the doctor will charge you for procedures that are supposedly not covered by your insurance, but after submitting my claim to my insurance I come to find out that they do cover it plus I was over charged. Don’t expect to get reimbursed by her either if over charged.
