If you want to check yourself and your capabilities of installing a car seat (or like me- have not had any luck installing one), here are a couple of ways to get a second opinion.

DOT does period free checks on Saturdays- you can always check their website here.

You can call Marjorie Marciano at the NYC Department of Transportation at 212 442 7672 and make an appt. with her or one of her staff at the office on Worth St. in lower Manhattan.  They may also be able to refer you to a DOT resource in Bklyn.
This is a free service offered by the city.

Alisa Baer, aka The Car Seat Lady, also does checks for a fee ( $60). She does them on weekends as this is not her full-time gig.  She can advise you what seat to get for your particular car.

P.S. - this is a random photo I found on the internet- not anyone from DOT and certainly not the Car Seat Lady.

  1. When do you turn the car seat to face forward? I’ve heard when they are 33lbs and others say when they are 1 year-old.
