There have been a few recent inquiries about lactation consultants. Another way to get help is through the La Leche League: you can ask questions, hang out, and meet other moms. I went to a couple of meetings in Ft. Greene and met some of my best friends there- really. I initially went when I was 9 months pregnant and got to hold my first newborn- whew- that was overwhelming! At any rate, here are some of their upcoming events and also the contact information for the leaders.
LLL of Park Slope series meetings are an informal Q & A session and group discussion where you can just look, listen, have a bagel, nurse among other people, see how to use a sling, compare latches. Hear first hand what it is like to nurse a 2-day old vs. a 5-day old vs. a 6-week old baby. We discuss any or all aspects of parenting. Some typical questions are “how often should my baby be nursing?” or “what is paced bottle-feeding”? Leaders are also available to answer questions over the phone between meetings.
