Well, I am shamelessly reposting about our kids disco we are doing this Sunday. Honestly, it has been (whew!) work to put this together and people in the community have been great donating their time, services and items for the raffle. We all really believe we can fight Ratner’s project. We just need to raise money to help pay the lawyers that are continuing to sue Ratner et al.  Here are some of the ways it will impact our family and wonderful Brooklyn life as we know it. I don’t mind development- just not this kind of development at this scale.

* You can expect SERIOUS NEGATIVE IMPACTS on AIR QUALITY, NOISE, TRAFFIC
and PARKING

o Nearly double the number of buses

o Up to 2,500 more cars

o Up to 400 new taxi trips

o Up to 80 additional trucks on weekdays- and increasing ASTHMA rates due to this.

o NO PLAN for traffic on Saturdays, during basketball games, or other
events

o GRIDLOCK resulting from proposed new traffic patterns

o CLOSED STREETS and REDUCED PARKING from new water lines and sewer
mains
There is now NO SYSTEM in place to deal with these impacts.

Okay, so here is the info on the disco! I bought some disco accessories to dress up in- I can’t wait to try the gold eyelashes I got!

Kddhome It will be a really fun
afternoon of family dancing, music and partying. This is a fundraiser
for Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn

mega-project as long as necessary.  There will be dance lessons, art
corner, major raffle prizes and a few teenagers there to help out with
the kids so the parents can sit back, dance and drink!

I am so excited about this Kids Disco! And, after running around today slapping up posters and handing out postcards, I think a lot of people are coming. The space is outrageously bohemian and huge. I am including a photo so you can see how cool it is. It will be a really fun afternoon of family dancing, music and partying.
