The Ragamuffin Parade is an annual tradition in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where kids dress in costume and march down Third Avenue to cheering adults. The parade is on Sep 29 at 12:30 pm (rain or shine).
The parade was started to make Halloween safe for little ones (and I also suspect for those who just can’t wait for Halloween!). It has been going for 41 years! It is a super hip family event where kids (expect about 1600) parade down the street in their ragamuffin best: pjs, superhero costumes, raggedy clothes or costumes. Bicycles, tricycles and strollers
are allowed on the route, so many clans incorporate these modes of
transport into their costume themes and decorate them to the nines.
If you want to march with your child, assemble at Third Avenue and 67th Street between 11-00am-12:15pm. Children
must be accompanied by an adult along the parade route. For more
information call (718) 307-7820. The big judging for the GRAND PRIZES will be between 11:30 and 12:15 pm, so make sure you are there on time! And, if your child doesn’t win a grand prize, they will still get a gift for registering or marching in the parade.
LEFT: actually a photo from Washington Square, but you get the vibe.

This sounds like such fun! Though I think that participating will have to wait until my 3 month old is, well, a little older, I think it will be fun to watch.
I found your website through the Bay Ridge Parents yahoo group, and I have to say I quite like it. We just moved here from out of state about a month ago…it’s fun to see what kinds of things are out there (and so close by, too). Thanks!
