My friend Gigi in Colorado has a 4 year old son who gets hyperactive when he eats sugar. She found an alternative and swears by it. I think it would be good for me too- a confirmed addict to Swedish Fish.
The sugar substitute called "Whey Low" claims to be 100% natural, to taste like sugar, have 75% less calories than sugar and 70-80% lower Glycemic Index than sugar (great for diabetics).  For you bakers out there: Whey Low is a one-for-one substitute for sugar in all foods. They have a brown sugar substitute too (LEFT PHOTO) and a special sugar for diabetics. I was curious about the "100% natural" claim- so I did some more reading.  Apparently "Whey Low" is a blend of natural sugars, while other substitutes like Splenda contain a chemical. There is a certain amount of milk sugar in the product. They reported no problems with the three lactose-intolerant consumers in their survey, but you never know.  It is $8 for a 1 lb bag! That’s a lot of money- but might be worth it if you can possibly quell hyperactivity in the house!  www.wheylow.com.

  1. I LOVE Agave Nectar too- though I don’t think you can use it as a sugar substitute for cooking?

  2. What about Agave syrup? I have heard it scores low on the glycemic index, too.

  3. See. i knew I liked you. I love Swedish Fish too. :-)
