New Brooklyn website for great gifts

Today Birch and I spent the afternoon at Target. I know, I know. I feel the same way, BUT I also found it to be a great hangout for Birch for a couple of hours. He got to play with a bunch of electronic toys (specifically the new Barbie electric guitar) AND we got to practice his will: namely to leave the toys behind as we walked up and down the aisles. (This is still hard for me to do at a great boutique!)
The whole reason we were there in the first place was to choose birthday gifts for 5 year old triplets. They wanted Batman figures, Transformers and anything Barbie. So, Target it was. (As an aside I counted SIX recall notices on our walk down the toy aisles. That is almost one per aisle! Isn’t that horrifying?)
Had I not been given a list for the triplets, I would have shopped at this new site: http://www.hazelwoodchildren.com. It is a site created by a Brooklyn based mom, Jennifer, just 4 months ago. It is a site dedicated to products for infants, children and parents that are produced by artists and designers with an environmentally conscious emphasis. My guess is you won’t see any recall notices at Hazel Wood Children.
Here are some of my favorites from the site: vedaDUDE Chill. This is a moisturizer (though they say it is a balm and knowing that my husband balks against anything that smacks of a female beauty regime, I understand the word usage) – that is made up of organic coconut and jojoba. Perfect for the winter. $20.

I love this NUI Organics 100% organic wool blanket. It is 38" x 38"- perfect to wrap your little one in- they also have plain colors. $140.
The folksy, saturated wall prints from Old School Stationer Letter Press are great ideas for art and design in the home. They are 8" x 8" that come ready to hang with a wood frame backing. $42.
This Zid Zid animal mask is fantasic- you have a whole party full of frollicking animals with the collection. $13 each.
While I do love our $20 Ikea high chair, this Argington Toddler Babylon High Chair is so good looking. It comes in 6 different finishes and can be used from 6 months to 250 pounds (hope the child isn’t still living with you by then!) . You can buy a cushion and tray to go with it.
These Zid Zid Color Me Cushions remind me of projects that I used to do (albeit the stuffed animals I had weren’t to be drawn on). You can choose from a horse, camel or elephant.
The possibilities are endless! (buttons, fabric, paint, markers). What a blast! $18.
There are a lot of beautiful products to check out- and it is an easy site to use…shop on!

The Argington chair looks great, but I wish we’d tried it before we spent a fortune on it. We bought it when the infant tray kit attachment was just being manufactured and I think it could use some improvements. The tray doesn’t come on and off easily, and the seat height can’t be adjusted without taking the whole thing apart. Just FYI!
