Getting In Shape With Your Babes
Are you ready to get in shape- but not ready to find childcare for just an hour? These fitness studios and trainers have found ways to help you out. The solutions range from onsite daycare to incorporating your baby into the class. For other fitness classes and personal trainers and yoga and pilates listings- visit these links on the blog.
There is a new yoga and pilates studio in Fort Greene. They also provide childcare at the same time for $10. The studio is owned by local mom Alexandra Beller who hand-picked the caregiver – the same caregiver who watches over her 1.5 year old son. And, even better, If you mention this blog, "A Child Grows" you get your first class FREE! (that is up until April 15th – tax day. It is in hopes that those
of you who are stressed preparing taxes instead smoooooth out with
Pilates or Yoga!) Adult open classes are $15. (24 hr childcare reservation required).
For updated information on classes visit their website, but here is the current schedule.
Tuesdays: 1:00 – 2:15 pm – Pilates with Kat
Thursdays: 1:00 – 2:15 pm – Yoga with Sarah
Sundays: 11:00 – 12:15 pm – Yoga with Sadie**updated
P.S. – I asked Alexandra if they offer prenatal, and she mentioned that not yet, but that the classes are so small they can give a pregnant woman specialized attention.

I have two friends who take her class and are in amazing shape- you should see their arms! I have worked with her also and can tell you I have never been bored and never pushed so hard and appreciated it so much! (Disclaimer: this photo is not of Rozz, but just a photo I found on the internet that looked like fun!)

Lauren, mother of two, wrote me the other day that she has started this studio "The Everyday Family Center" within the "Everday Athlete"- and I have to say it looks pretty fantastic. They offer everything from childbirth classes to exercise for you and your baby. (Personally, I think the Baby Bungee class looks like a blast!) Here are the exercise offerings:
Baby Wearing Strength- Combining safe movements while holding your baby in a carrier, you will
learn essential core strength that will allow you to have fun with your
child and minimize your aches and pains related to childcare. A great
way to start moving after childbirth and a solid introduction to our
Baby Bungee Class.
Baby Bungee (Postnatal Strength)- While your baby learns basic socialization and gross motor skills,
safely twisting and jumping in a Baby Bungee Bouncer, you will
reconnect with your body developing your core strength, balance,
flexibility and stamina, just like your baby! Our most popular class.
Mommy Boot Camp- Small Group Training Class designed to get your heart rate up for an
hour while you work on strength, stability, flexibility and core. We
will use stability balls, medicine balls, jump ropes, dumb bells and
more in a circuit training set up. Childcare is provided for ages 8 to
18 months.
