Life Toys

Birch is boycotting "toys". He wants all the things we have instead: a measuring tape, screwdriver, trowel, iron, rake and paintbrush. Sound familiar?
Birch walks around with his "measure tape" hooked to his belt loop and a shovel in his pocket- both of which aren’t particularily "safe" as they aren’t kids’ toys, but he sure does love them!
I decided to do a search for "life toys" to see what kind of substitutes they have for the "real toys" we adults have.
I love this upright vacuum cleaner that actually picks up bits of "fluff" and allows the child to empty the container. It has additional "tools" like a wand and hand-vacuum.
Here is a "safe" tape measurer that kids can carry around. It is bigger than life-size and retracts.
One of my favorite "life toys" is this washing machine. It actually goes through four cycles with noises and has a pull-out detergent dispenser.

Here is an entire gardening trolley (that looks a little like a janitor’s trolley to me). It sure looks like it has everything included- garbage bags, rakes, shovels, watering can and more.
And here are some gloves for that serious gardener….
Do you have a "cleaner" on your hands? Here is a complete cleaning set. I have found that Birch loves his dust pan and brush the most and actually helps me sweep up the spills we have (especially raisins which then get deposited in his mouth.)
And, here is a tool box with some tool toys...you can always add "real" ones that seem age-appropriate. Here is another set I like- it has more tools and a mobile phone (what every contractor needs!) and then you can buy your own tote to put them all in.
