At Asphalt Green, community service is
at the core of our origin and at the heart of our mission. We are
committed to improving the health and fitness of all New Yorkers,
regardless of age, ability, or even economics. That is why we operate a
variety of programs—all funded by our generous supporters—that cater to
the most needy members of our community. We call these our Community
Programs.
Asphalt Green offers individual classes for children with special needs in swimming, gymnastics, basketball, etc.

Asphalt Green has kind,
caring patient instructors who take the lessons at the child’s pace.
My son has gone from being afraid of the water to swimming in water
over his head in just a few months of lessons.

FirefliesNY™
provides a new light for children with Autism / Asperger’s Syndrome.
Sessions at FirefliesNY™ involve a blend of TaeKwonDo, music/movement,
balance, stretching, and breathing exercises all guided by Applied
Behavior Analysis. The goal of each session is to teach, via the ABA
method, the major tenets of Tae Kwon Do:

I
cannot recommend too highly – They teach Tae Kwon Do to austitic kids,
led by a Certified Special Education teacher who is also a black-belt
in Tae Kwon Do.  They have done wonders for my son.

Therapeutic Riding is open all year. We offer both indoor and outdoor
riding for special needs children and adults. In addition to ring
riding we also offer trail riding to our students. People with special
needs do not have to be observers of life. People with special needs
can participate in life and enjoy all      its excitement.

My son has an absolute blast and has learned to sit straight in the saddle and tell the horse what to do.
