Breastfeeding Help
It seems like just about everyone has breastfeeding issues- whether it is their first child or third. At the breastfeeding class at the hospital 2 weeks ago, half of the mothers were second-time ones and were looking for help. I was one of them.
Today, I looked at the list of lactation consultants on my blog. I wanted to try a new LC (lactation consultant), but one that had come recommended. I called Katherine Lilleskov. She returned my phone call immediately. I told her about my overproduction of milk. I have been through this before. When I had Birch, I had problems right away. On day 3 of his birth, he was gagging, spitting, pulling off the breast and chomping down to try and stay the flood of milk he was getting from me. I saw three lactation consultants and after 2 months, finally got the issue resolved. So, I knew a little bit about it, but this time with Willow is a little different. I explained to Katherine that I was doing “block nursing” in 3 hours shifts. She thought this was the right course and suggested specific herbs, supplements and other courses of action also. She was great to try and help me over the phone, and suggested that if I was still having problems to arrange for a consult. The most important piece of advice she offered me though was to refer me to www.kellymom.com. I don’t know how I forgot about this invaluable resource. I even list it as one of my favorite resources on my blog!
But, it reminded me to remind you all that www.kellymom is fantastic. You can find LC’s, help about medication and breastfeeding, herbs, nutrition for mom and baby, weight gain for babies and a forum.
And, yes, I am hopeful that in the next few weeks that my problem will be resolved, but if not, I feel comforted by the good LC’s and breastfeeding support groups that are available in Brooklyn.

Thank you so much for sharing this honest account of your experience. I couldn’t agree more with the kellymom recommendation- it is a fantastic website for everything breastfeeding related and I used it countless times.
I had a similar problem to you- the LC I spoke with (and you’re right, there are some amazing ones here) suggested I pump an ounce or two before feeding her until my supply regulated- and that worked great. Hope all is wonderful with new baby
