A Child Grows Events Additions

West Indian American Day Carnival
The
annual multi-day West Indian celebration begins on Thursday with events
and concerts on the Brooklyn Museum grounds and culminates on Monday
with the Labor Day Carnival Parade, expected to draw over three million
people! Free kids’ events include a show on Friday afternoon emceed by
Father Goose that features featuring Hip Hop, Steelband, Dance,
Fashions, Karate, Police Youth Club, Gowanus Drill Team, Harlem
Children?s Zone, Soul Tigers Marching Band, Pink Diamond Steppers, and
more, and Saturday brings the Junior Carnival. Save room for food!
Eastern Parkway is lined with various dishes from every Caribbean
island – jerk chicken, chicken stew, fried chicken, beef stew, oxtail,
rice and peas, salad, macaroni pie, fried flying fish, curry goat,
roti, callaloo, souse, salt fish, fried bake, coconut bread, and much

Back to School Bash
2008 Parents’ Picks Winners
Habana Outpost and the Brooklyn Public Library team up to present a day
of fun, learning, and relaxation to ease the transition from summertime
to classroom time. The back-to-school party for parents, students, and
teachers features eco-friendly crafts, story time, face painting,
dancing, live DJ music, free gifts, food, and more. Adults can sip
frozen mojitos, too!
