FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 26- SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 28
The annual Art Under The Bridge Festival is happening all weekend. I confess I have been to this three times now. The first time I went we were still living in Manhattan. I had such a blast (BY MYSELF) that I called Papa Tree and said, "we’re moving to DUMBO". Well, we didn’t move to DUMBO, but I still love to go to this festival- now in its 12th year. Blog, DUMBONYC.com has the Friday opening details….check it out there. (Photo from dumbonyc.com also- thanks!) For the full weekend of events go to www.dumboartfestival.org
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

It seems like every school is doing apple month. If you don’t have a
child in school, maybe you aren’t experiencing this….but it seems
like every child is tasting all the different kinds of apples, rating
them, drawing, painting them and talking about them. So, why not follow
that up with the Apple Festival at the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum.
You can get a tour, then listen to some music at 1 pm and 3 pm (the Jug
Addicts)- jug with jazz and then learn traditional Barn Dancing.
Throughout the day you can drink fresh pressed apple cider, apple
fritters (watch those waistlines!) and apple crafts. FREE.

The Chili Pepper Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens will have some of my favorite music. As well as music you can see dance, eat and learn about the chile-loving regions around the
world. Be a part of music history with a rare public performance by Pete
Seeger, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, Guy Davis together in a Special Family
Concert. Brooklyn’s young steel drum champs, the Sesame Flyers Steel
Pan Orchestra, get the party sizzling amid a whirl of feathered dancers
and fast and furious Caribbean rhythms. The Sauce Boss brings it to a
boil with his famous gumbo spiced with foot-stomping Florida swamp
blues and blistering slide guitar. Bombay songstress Falu blends her
own "indie Hindi" sounds into a spicy masala of classical Indian music
and alt rock. Throughout the afternoon, MCs Robbins & Ringold fire
up audiences with flame eating, fire juggling, and other daring deeds.
Plus, enjoy Indian chutney making, piquant pickle classes, and other
spicy cooking demonstrations and tastings, chile pepper tattoos, red
hot kids’ activities, and a visit with renowned garden expert the Chile
Goddess. You can also pick up organically grown plants and
chile-inspired gifts and tingle your taste buds with spicy food and
cold beer. MORE INFORMATION
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Local Brooklyn star, Audra Rox, is playing the Highline Ballroom in downtown Manhattan-
what a cool place to have a family Sunday outing and "your kids will
feel like they are going to a REAL rock show " (that’s from Audra).
You can order food and drinks and relax while the kids dance and
scream. Relax is key here.

Here is a pathetic admission: I have never been to Hoboken. This is pathetic for 2 reasons: I used to use Hoboken as a shortcut to avoid the Lincoln Tunnel traffic and I never stopped in the town to thank them for cutting my commute time in half, and TWO, I am an artist and a lot of my artist friends lived there and I never went to visit them. So, maybe this is my chance to finally visit the town. It sounds like a cool festival and I think it would be worth a trip. Hoboken Arts and Music Festival. Hoboken’s
annual arts ‘do features three stages of live music and over 300
artists, sculptors, photographers, and craftspeople demonstrating,
displaying, and selling their wares. The children’s area, on 3rd
Street, offers rides, games, creative activities, ponies, a petting
zoo, a magic show, face painting, clowns, balloons, live performances,
and more.
