My Holiday Present Came Early This Year

It feels like the holiday season started early this year. There were hour long lines at the polling stations. People waited with patience and eagerness, like they couldn’t wait to sit on Santa’s lap and whisper their wish to him. Kids were yelling, “Obama” with jubiliation as they ran out of school. At the hardware store, everyone was all smiles (even the clerk who usually can’t find one). One shopkeeper shook her ponytail and said, “can you believe it?” and talked about the miracle of Obama’s election. It turns out Santa was listening. The chorus of wishes came true. We have hope. Finally. It feels good to be an American again.
