Gifts for the holidays

Have you begun your Christmas shopping yet? Me neither. I thought I would try to put some fun, unique gifts together every week until we hit a wall with it. Here are some of my favorites this week:

I love this classic flyer shed. It is $140, but if it will last as long as ours did growing up, then it isn’t such a bad price. Think 30 years at $5 a year. Not bad! We used ours on a big hill near our house- and did it ever cut through the ice! Ours, like this one, has a pivot-front design. The finish (marine-grade) is lead-free. It can be hand engraved. The lettering runs up the center of the sled. ($30 extra). You can pile the kids on at the weight limit of 300 lbs. Order it by December 12 for a Christmas delivery.

I always check Craftsbury Kids for handmade and unusual gifts. It is like Etsy, but compiled in one boutique. Craftsbury is selling these new custom silhouette pendant necklaces. You send a profile photo and Whitney Phippen makes the silhouette. The surrounding frame is an antique drapery ring. For those of you with more than one child there are a couple of options:1. Two silhouettes facing each other on one side ($10 additional) 2. A double sided pendant ($22 additional). Order early, they take 2-3 weeks to complete. The necklaces start at $48.

Pengaloo is a cool memory game that reminds me of the documentary “The March of the Penguins”. You roll the dice to find the matching hidden eggs under the penguins. When you are the first to collect six penguins, you win! It sells for $24.95 at Blue Orange Games. (They have a lot of unusual board games that they sell)

Do you need a gift for a teacher this year? You can have a wooden stamp made with her/his name. I love this idea. The stamp will ship within two weeks from date of purchase.

While we are talking about school, I love these old library borrowing cards! Remember these? Someone from Etsy has made them into book plate labels. They are printed on sticker paper. $8 for 18 bookplates packaged in a glassine envelope.

Lastly Imagiplay carries a ton of wooden animals in pairs. They have zebras, horses, lions…you name it. Each pair is $4.99. I can imagine any child finding numerous ways to incorporate them into his daily play.
They are varnished so they are water and soil resistant.
