  1. Hi Karen,

My favorite class that I have taken with my kids is the Thursday
morning Music Together class with Stephen in Park Slope. We started it
when Ethan was six months old and have done a number of sessions.
Ethan love breaking out the guitar for a little jam session as a
result. We have taken other music classes but nothing compares to
Stephen’s class – his love and knowledge of music makes it a standout!

    Take care,
    SaSaDi

  2. This is a long shot, as my son and I haven’t taken a class together. But, in
his own way, I think he taught a subway full of New Yorkers nice lesson the
other day. Kind of a class in loosening up.

    Here’s the tale:

My 13-month old son Dylan and I were commuting home from work/daycare in
Manhattan to home in Brooklyn. The subway car was filled with the tired,
long faces of people working too hard and worrying about the economy.
Suddenly a trio of breakdancers entered the car and cued up their very lo-fi
boom box. Eye balls rolled, backs stiffened. Clearly no one was in the mood
for a literal song and dance followed by a “give us money” song and dance.
The dancers began busting their moves. The first guy was up for a minute or
so. I watched Dylan to make sure he wasn’t feeling threatened by the jerky
motions not more than five feet away. He just watched, not showing any
emotion. The second dancer did his routine. He was more limber and able to
bend his body in seemingly every direction at once. Suddenly, Dylan began
giggling. Giggling loudly. Giggling so loudly, that everyone could hear him
over the music. As the passengers noticed him, they began to light up and
smile too. The dancer noticed Dylan as well, and began to really turn up
the volume on his moves, eliciting more giggles. When the dancers finished
their routine, they walked the aisle with their hats out and collected quite
a bit of money. I think Dylan’s laughter not only raised passenger spirits,
but more donations for the dancers too. His was a lesson in enjoying the
ride, and giving generously. And I know he taught me to see the world
through his eyes–because its much more fun that way.

    Thanks for reading,

    Caroline

  3. Ruby and I love Music Together in Park Slope taught by Stephen. He’s like a modern day leprechaun. I imagine all the toddlers following him around an old Irish town while he plays a flute. He’s baby friendly in a non-creepy way. Hard to do for a 20-something guy. And I don’t know how he stays energetic and smiling for so many hours but I think it might have something to do with Red Bull.

  4. - My favorite classes with Addison -
Baby and Me with Christina at Mala
I loved taking my son to this from the time he was 8 weeks old until he was about 7 months old. I met other new moms and was able to slowly get back into my yoga practice. It was tremendously helpful to be in a room full of other moms going through the same thing. Christina is a terrific teacher and after having 2 babies, offers great guidance. Addison loved the baby massage, being part of the action and listing to the OHMMssss.

Arfie’s Music at ArtCetera with Peira
We’ve taking this class for over a year. Peira has a beautiful voice and Addi loves banging on the drums, dancing in the middle of the room, listening to the guitar and singing along to his favorite songs.

  5. my favorite class so far with my daughter was Private Picassos at Still Hip this past summer. She loves to paint and it was great to let her make a mess not in my house!

  6. My son’s favorite class BY FAR has been Musica (details below). He has a spanish speaking nanny so they go and have a wonderful time. When I’ve taken him he has danced and been highly interactive. He really responds to the teacher and comes home singing in spanish. It is wonderful. For those of you in Bed-Stuy we are also working on finding a location to get a class over here. Fingers crossed!

  7. We really enjoyed Music Together with Jesse in Fort Greene. We’ve taken her class three times, since Maya was 3 months old. We love the mixed-age classes, the range of sounds, instruments, and movement that is used. Maya still sings the songs and requests the cd’s even though we haven’t been to a class in six months.
