A Child Grows Event Picks

112school_bus2Did you know that Care Bears on Fire, one of the hot teen bands from Brooklyn is performing with Rachel Trachtenberg this weekend? That promises to be a hot pairing! If you aren’t into that, how about celebrating the Chinese New Year with buying some beautiful peach blossoms or making some dragons or rolling rice balls? You can even catch special Chinese dances and performers. There are some great seminars going on too: mine, for one! I am spilling my best resources and dishing on the best of the best in Brooklyn. There are some great workshops on schools: learn about a 529 savings plan along with “how to get into college” for your teens. If your tikes aren’t ready for that yet, perhaps a seminar on “Public School 101″ might be interesting? Here is one that will interest parents of all aged children: how to put that SEXY back in your life.  There is a lot to do this week and next. Here are the specifics…

PARK SLOPE: MY SEMINAR ON BEST TIPS FOR BROOKLYN PARENTS

Saturday, January 24: 4:00-5:30 PM

karen_willowI am speaking next week in BOCOCA for Brooklyn Baby Bites. This seminar is tons of fun- I love to do this. Basically, I give new and expectant parents the low-down on the best resources of Brooklyn. And I mean everything: car services, daycare, birthing places and birthing providers, pediatricians, play groups, classes, stores and YES! I am totally out of breath after the 45 minutes of talking. But, if you miss anything, don’t worry, because I give you a 10 page handout to take home. Register here if you are interested. They are also raffling off a Cosi car seat (everyone in Europe swears by these0 and a Regal Lager baby carrier.  It is at Bend and Bloom (which I hear is a beautiful yoga studio) and the cost is $25 per single/$40 per couple.Bend & Bloom Yoga, 708 Sackett Street (btw. 4th and 5th Aves) in Park Slope. RSVP to chana@babybitesbrooklyn.com. (Photo of me and Willow) Bend & Bloom Yoga, 708 Sackett Street (btwn 4th & 5th Ave), Park Slope

GOWANUS: KIDS ROCK CONCERT

Saturday, January 24: 7 pm

947bhr The Bell House is a cool new venue (nice cafe tables and chairs, a couple of couches, huge space and really great sound- but,  yes, loud as a parent complained. ) Hopefully, The Bell House will read this and reduce the volume level. So, this will be a cool all ages kids show. (This is not for toddlers by the way).  Rachel Tractenberg and Care Bears on Fire and Forward Forward will be playing. Care Bears are supposed to be awesome, and I have seen Rachel- she is a seasoned performer.  I would suggest ordering tickets online. The cost is $10 per person.  It is at 149 7th St. Brooklyn, NY 11215

Deena Maerowitz is going to speak on The College Admissions Process.
