we love to head off to the NY Aquarium when it opens and then when we are done there we walk along the boardwalk – feels like we are miles away from home!

I have to agree – favorite local, no effort, inexpensive getaway is the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens!

A nice day trip to Bear Mountain State Park is one of our favorites. Even better if you stay over night. There are paddle boats, picnic areas, a carousel, and the wonderful zoo trail is a must, it is quite a deal for $1 donation. (That was what it cost us to go on the zoo trail last time we were there). They also have a huge outdoor pool. Just check their website for pool schedule. My daughter loves to spend time by the lake feeding the birds before heading for the zoo.

Our favorite “getaway” on a weekend or any day is Prospect Park in Brooklyn – you everything there – playgrounds, the zoo, the botanical gardens, the carousel and long stretches of green grass and trees.

My favorite getaway is the Jersey Shore it is about an hour away, and I can just go to the beach relax or go shopping.. I love it.

I love the New Paltz area. It’s close enough for a day trip with lots of good hiking and tasty restaurants.
