Do you know the women behind Chowmama? So, if not, let me tell you about them. Michelle and Stacie are Brooklyn moms who have an addictive blog about feeding your family with nutritious meals. They have recipes divided by age group, ease or type. And, they are interesting enough that I, who truly hates to cook, read it. I would rather clean the toilets AND iron every day for the rest of my life than have to cook one meal a day. So, I say this with gratitude: their blog makes me even like the idea of cooking.
I met Michelle and Stacie at Brooklyn Blogfest a couple of weeks ago. It is always kind of jarring to meet the people you read. But, these two are just as serious about food and sympatico with eachother in person as they are on the blog. So, I knew I had to write about them, I just didn’t know when. So, when Stacie wrote an open letter to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum about the lack of healthy food they offer in their cafeteria, I knew this was it.
Stacie wrote a very respectful letter to the Museum that was full of innovative ideas about how to integrate the museum’s ideals with their cafeteria. So I am going to be less nice: come on! No more mac n’ cheese, no more chicken fingers, no more chips, no more soda, no more sugary cookies, nachos, and overly processed foods!
So, I want to jump on board with her: if YOU agree, please post a comment under her open letter to the Brooklyn Museum so we can be heard. NO MORE junk for our kids.
And, not to mix up the issues, but how about opening the museum before 12 pm which is when we really need a place to go with our kids?
