DanceAfrica has been a tradition at BAM. I went a couple of years ago by myself- and managed to rock out all by my lonely. At the end of the production, people were dancing in the aisles. It felt like a real celebration. This year DanceAfrica has been selected as a TimeOut New York Kids Memorial Day Weekend Pick. DanceAfrica celebrates African and African American dance, music, film and art. There are a couple of films, the full dance/music production of DanceAfrica with matinees so you can bring your children and a bazaar for unique crafts, food and fashion. The festival runs from Friday, May 22nd- Monday, May 25th. To find the schedule check BAM’s website.
BAM is offering 50% off tickets for kids ages 16 and under to all live dance performances! Tickets can be purchased online (click BUY, select seat, select Kid’s Price), or by mentioning the youth discount when ordering tickets by phone(718.636.4100) or in person at the BAM Box Office(30 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn).
