5 Things To Babyproof

As usual, Baby Bodyguards, comes up with some great advice. I think #5 is the easiest to forget and possibly the most dangerous. Today, Birch took a Cold-eeze out of my bag and sucked on it, thinking it was candy. Luckily, I caught him before he sucked it for too long.

5 Things You Can do Today to Protect Your Children that Will Cost you Next to Nothing

1-Remove all tablecloths from your tables.
I love the look of an elegantly set table. I also know that toddlers have been known to pull on a tablecloth causing dishes, glass, and hot food and beverages to come tumbling down on them. A table can look just as nice if you use a table runner and some matching placemats, and you can breathe a little easier at your dinner party.

2-Make sure you don’t have heavy books or items high in a bookcase
Bookcases should be anchored to a wall, so if your child tries to climb it, it can˙t fall down. You also want to make sure that the heaviest items on the shelves are on the bottom of the bookcase.

3-Put a runner or non-slip pads on your stairs or make sure you have treads on your feet.
I moved into my new house when my son was 3 months old. I remember running up and down the stairs in my new slippers, until the day I came falling down the stairs, newborn in my arms and all. I was the only one injured, but I threw my cheap slippers out and slip proofed the stairs

4-Cover the corners of your coffee table
It’s not the prettiest look, but getting some corner bumpers (cost is about $10) to put on your table is the way to go. From the time my son was crawling, we covered all of our corners, and I cannot tell you how many times he has fallen and those bumpers have come in contact with his little noggin. Better the ugly bumper than the sharp edge. They make bumpers in different colors now, so you can try to match your table.

5-Watch out for your purse, or the purses of others
If your purse is anything like mine, it has everything in it from loose change to medicine to a sewing kit. It is very important to keep your purse and the purses of others out of a child˙s reach. There are many children who are injured each year by items they take out of mommy or grandmas purse.

  1. Thanks! These are really good. I forget my purse too and my youngest loves to dig through it whenever she finds it.
