How To Find A Moms Group

I went to a “New Mom’s Group” today that meets in the park in my neighborhood. Today there were so many babies, and a lot of interesting women who were all sharing this same experience together: having a baby. Sometimes you go and you connect with only one other mom, and sometimes it is a whole bunch.  I have always met at least someone I could pass the time with.  Yes, sometime the conversation drifts off, but some gurgling baby always breaks the silence.  My first mom’s group was amazing.  They are still the same ones I call for playdates.  This second time around, it is a little more difficult.  I can’t go as often since I have to find someone to watch my older son but I really want playmates for my youngest and I adore making new friends. (The more friends, the better, I always feel). So, the effort of finding and paying for a sitter for 2 hours is totally worth it. I feel totally rejuvenated and lively after my mom’s group.

So, in that spirit, I wanted to post info on where to find moms groups. They are a great way to share info and just meet others who can dish, groan, moan and who just “get it”.

There are some organizations in Brooklyn that help set you up with other moms. There are ones by neighborhood, led by psychologists, led by physicians, one for working moms, one of motherless mothers, one for networking with other moms, etc. You should also know that if you join a Listserv with Yahoo (all listed on my page here) by neighborhood, you can form your own group or join one already in motion.  This is a great way to get a toddler playgroup going too.
