large_FluvaccineMy sister in Chicago just called me.  Her voice was shaky. She and I have been regularly discussing what to do about vaccinating against the H1N1 flu. Just a few days ago, we had both decided against it.  She called me late tonight to advise me to watch the 60 minutes update on the H1N1 flu. My sister said the report had given her pause- and now she is seriously reconsidering getting the vaccine. I just finished watching it, and I am also reconsidering. I also know why her voice was shaking.  I finally comprehend that this flu is affecting the youngest and healthiest and why.  Watch it yourself here. It really is informative.

  1. my daughter (8) got the swine flu in September. It came on very fast and with tamiflu was mostly gone within 24 hours. I kept her out of school for several days following just to make sure she was clear. Since then i have heard of several stories of healthy children who have contracted the H1N1 virus and then got secondary infections that resulted in their deaths. All these children were healthy without underlying issues. For them to have been healthy one day and gone within a week is unbelievable. These are all friends of friends…..their lives have been devastated. This is really scary stuff. Sometimes i think the media is overblowing things, then i think they are not telling us enough. I worry that the CDC is trying to control the distribution of tamiflu….I also got the H1N1 virus but was not able to get the tamiflu..the virus knocked me out for several days.

I took my girls to get the H1N1 as soon as it was available. I plan to get one too.
