All this news about the MTA phase-out of student fares and the February fare hike made me wonder what DOES the MTA offer families?

  • Have a visiting friend with kid in tow? Try the 1-Day Fun Pass. The cost: $8.25 which is good for unlimited subway and local bus rides from first use until 3 a.m. the following day. Sold at MetroCard Vending Machines and at neighborhood stores. Not available at station booths.
  • Up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free on subways and local buses when accompanied by a fare paying adult. Infants (under two years of age) ride express buses free if the child sits on the lap of the accompanying adult.
  • Show your MetroCard at the Brooklyn Museum Visitor Center and see Who Shot Rock & Roll for less in November and December. Who Shot Rock & Roll features more than 175 works by 105 photographers, including many rare and never-before-exhibited photographs. The exhibition is on view now through January 31, 2010.
