Why hiding vegetables doesn’t work

Hiding nothing but burger here!
It’s no surprise that the cookbooks Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld and The Sneaky Chef by Melissa Chase Lapine are bestsellers: they guide us in how to deal with picky eaters and specifically non-veggie eaters. I think most of us can say we have had this issue. It can be a source of battle, frustration and worry: What if my child isn’t getting the nutrients they need? Can something happen to her developmentally? Will she become a cheesaholic? Will she never learn to eat well? I couldn’t get our son Birch to eat spinach or kale for the life of me. So, I started making “Green Power Shakes”. We use them on the go when I don’t have time to make a meal. It works: he gets those dark green vitamins and nutrients (A, C, K, iron and folate) with a mix of Flaxseed Oil and wheatgerm….and I feel relieved. However, Chowmama cautions against doing this habitually and she has some great points. She says that hiding vegetables is a “short term ‘win’ that undermines the long term goal of helping our kids establish healthy eating habits for life.”
