Drawing by student Kimberly Jones, Montgomery, AL

I love this drawing I found on the internet. It has all the earnestness of a young student trying to portray a human likeness- especially to someone so important to our nation’s history and to the history of Montgomery, AL (where the artist is from).  She won first prize for her drawing in 2007.  MLK’s birthday is a momentous day for our country as it is a holiday where we not only celebrate an incredible man but also make resolutions to carry out his peaceful mission.  There are some ways to celebrate MLK’s birthday starting this weekend, but most of the events are on Monday. There are, of course, other events for “only” adults, but I am listing “family” events below.

Saturday, January 16th and Sunday, January 17th, Monday, January 18th : MLK celebrations

Join BCM as they examine the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and how his famous words “I have a dream” have affected change in America. Explore the power a speech can hold, as you create unique poem collages to take home.
“Make a Wish” Balloons
