The snotsucker (or nose hose, if you prefer)

NoseFrida ©Dr. Greene

I have never been a fan of the word snot, so the slogan of Nosefrida’s nasal aspirator, “the snotsucker” does not appeal to me…at all. However, the whole idea does. Extract the mucus from your miserable infant’s nose without frustration? Sounds good to me. I  just have to refer to it as the “nose hose”.

If you have a baby with a stuffy nose, you know how futile it is to use one of those blue bulbous nose aspirators. They don’t work well, and worse, they can injure your infant if used improperly. Nosefrida’s “nose hose” was invented in Sweden by ENTs and doesn’t require you to insert anything in your child’s nose.  Instead, it has a tube that you put against your baby’s nostril while put the other end of the long tube in your mouth. And you suck…the mucus….out. Yes, yuck. BUT, there is a filter that stops anything from entering your mouth or the transfer of any bacteria.  It can’t be too bad if all the Europeans are using it, they do seem to know a thing or two.  You can buy it at Whole Foods and online at Target.  It is BPA and phalate free.

  1. I have heard Cleanoz works really well. Can’t see that this is really that gross- I mean we clean poop up everyday, right?

  2. I don’t want to use a disgusting mouth suction device….. Are you now going euurrghhh that’s disgusting ? Well wait until you hear the noise it makes when you’re sucking bogies out and start seeing snotty bits going up the tube !! I LOVE CLEANOZ ASPIRATOR. I bought this product for my daughter who has had horrible time breathing when she gets sick. This product worked perfectly and was able to alleviate my daughters struggling to breathe. All I did was drop a few drops of Cleanoz saline preservative free in her nose to loosen up the snot, and then I used the Cleanoz. It was great. I had to use it a couple more times that day to help her keep breathing well. And the best part was that at the end of the day, I threw away the nozzle. I didn’t have to clean anything! The next day she was still a little congested and so I used a new nozzle piece, and it worked great again. She actually likes it now when I use the Cleanoz. She HATED the bulb syringe.
