The Kids Week today at Intrepid was great- and it was actually surprisingly easy to navigate and get to with 2 kids by myself.
The drive in from Fort Greene took 17 minutes- if we had taken the subway, it would have been more of a struggle with the 2 of them. (I have an 18 month old and 3 year old). (Make sure if you drive, go to the official parking lot of the Intrepid and get your ticket validated. All the info is on their site).
The line was fairly long at 10 am, but that was because all of us had gotten there early and were waiting for the museum to open. At 10:20 am the line was virtually gone.
The kids activities were great- fun giveaways, "astronauts" who walked around with trading cars, Irish dancing was sweet, Mars rover robots were super cool to see up close and of course, the jets on the flight deck were a real hit. My complaint (along with another family I spoke to)- was the film on Kamikaze fighter pilots that dominated 4 screens in the center of the museum. It was impossible to walk by them- the sound was huge and so were the screens. All the kids were fascinated by the fire, crashes and jets and the fake smoke (dry ice) that poured out at the end of the film. I think there could have been a more appropriate choice of film for Kids Week for sure.
