If you are looking for creative classes and camps for spring and summer, we have new Directory Listings that you need to know about.
Curious Jane is for girls entering 2nd – 6th grades. They offer after-school classes and multiple one-week sessions at the best schools around New York City and Philadelphia. In Brooklyn, they offer camps at Berkeley Carroll and Poly Prep. Additional programs are at Marymount (Manhattan), Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr) and Springside (Philadelphia). They have been featured in Time Out Kids New York, and has received great reviews from parents and campers.
Curious Jane’s hallmarks are fabulous teachers, small classes, and all-girls environment. They offer six project-based themes. This year they are: Toy Design I & II, Story Arts and Illustration, Zine Scene, Lab Scientist, Animal Nature, Building Workshop. Girls register for one theme per week. Guest visitors, trips and group projects relate back to what they are doing and learning. They play outside often and set aside time for less structured creativity. Their standard day runs 9am-3:30pm, with after-camp until 5:30.
For more info on Curious Jane visit their website or their Directory Listing mini-site.

Child’s Play NY offers both after-school and summer acting workshops for kids ages 4-10 year. (We are signing up when our son turns 4!)
Their spring after-school classes are registering now for a start date of April 13th for ages 4-6 years.
For summer camp: each week is a different session so the kids can immerse themselves into a topic: Acting for the Camera, Let’s Make a Musical and Shakespeare Players are just some of the exciting focuses. Guest teachers are specialists in the field of study. The work culminates in a performance where campers get to share all that they have accomplished in one week. For ages 4-6, “Story Play” is offered every week throughout the summer. Campers build characters and create stories together by tapping into their own intuitive ability for fantasy play. Children’s literature provides the springboard for their own stories while they are taught the fundamentals of acting.
Child’s Play NY has gotten solid reviews from Parents Connect, Koddler and others. The Founder and Executive Director of Child’s Play NY is Jocelyn Greene. Jocelyn teaches and directs at the Packer Collegiate Institute and the Berkeley Carroll.
***A special discount for readers of “A Child Grows in Brooklyn”: Enroll your child before March 31st and receive 50% off the second session. The refund will be applied if you mention “A Child Grows in Brooklyn” under “How did you find us?” ***
