A public art park to open and Atlantic Yards stalled?

Just as I was getting more depressed over the Atlantic Yard development, it turns out there may be hope as reported by McBrookyn. A rare SNAIL (that just happens to be New York’s most endangered native animal) has been found at the Atlantic Yard site along with 6 other rare, endangered or threatened plant and animal species. After all our human feats in trying to beat the horrific Yard project, it seems some plants and a snail might be the ones who put a stop to it. Is it possible? I am doing more than crossing my fingers.

On another positive note, it looks like downtown Brooklyn might be getting a playground/art park at the corner of Hoyt and Schermerhorn Streets. The rendering above looks lovely and we could use a park in that area. The NY Daily News reported on the plan of art installations and the timeline.  A local store owner though wasn’t as pleased with the idea, saying that the area’s improvements (Trader Joe’s, park plans, H & M’s move) are causing taxes to rise and putting small business owners out of business.

  1. Jeepers! The snail WAS too good to be believed! thanks for the heads up Meema! But it seems that the art playground is still on…or am I victim to another April Fool’s??!
Well, at least I can be confident that Barneys is coming…

Barneys New York will be opening a Barneys Co-Op at 194 Atlantic Ave near Urban Outfitters and Trader Joes. Are we getting shopping mecca?

  2. Alas, this is an April Fool’s joke! (Personally, I also fell for an exciting April Fool’s joke in my own neighborhood, promising federal funds for the creation of a street car line on Church Avenue out here in Flatbush/Kensington!)
