Mr. CoCo at 414 Myrtle Avenue

I’ve lived in Fort Greene since 2001 and I am thankful to report that there are now lots more options for finding quality produce in the neighborhood compared to when I came here, including organic items!  Mr. CoCo (414 Myrtle Avenue) just opened (it’s 24 hours,) and they have a decent selection of organic and non organic produce, as well as organic dairy, and grocery products. The prices seem good so far – including $1 for a pint of strawberries!  It’s sort of like a small version of Elly’s Market (230 DeKalb Ave) – currently my go to spot. A larger organic market is set to open also on Myrtle in the Walgreens Building, aka The Clermont (375 Myrtle Avenue). According to the Myrtle Avenue Partnership, it’s being opened by the people behind some of the grocery stores on Fulton (Fresh Garden, I’m hoping). It looks bigger than Mr. CoCo – and I can’t wait to see what they have to offer.  Also, I just noticed that the College Market (258 DeKalb Avenue) just put up new signage renaming themselves as “Campus Gourmet Deli – Organic Food & Grill.”  Just a cosmetic change?  It’s yet to be seen…  Of course, there’s also the Farmer’s Market which happens year round at Fort Greene Park. There are also 5 CSAs (Community-supported agriculture) in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill which allow you to buy local and seasonal food directly from a farmer – Clinton Hill CSA, Bed-Stuy CSA, Greene Harvest CSA,Fort Greene CSA, and Paisley Farm CSA.  (Thanks to Parents Around the Hill for the heads up on the CSAs!)
