Jake's sister helping him go to sleep
You can win 4 tix to the original musical production of “Wide Awake Jake” by TADA!’s Youth Theater now. This sweet story, about a young boy named Jake who can’t fall asleep, is playing from now through May 23rd so your tickets will be good for any of those performances pending availablility.
What the play is all about: In “Wide Awake Jake”, the family babysitter, Sarah (whose 15 year old voice is a knockout), tells Jake about “yawn power”. Jake learns how to yawn, and eventually yawns himself off to the land of nod where he encounters familiar characters like Curious George, the Cat in the Hat, a dragon, a giant and Alice in Wonderland in a colorful dreamland. The performance is done by children that range in ages 8-18 years; and that isn’t unique for TADA!. All of their productions are presented by their Resident Youth Ensemble who are trained by TADA’s team in everything from dance, voice, dictation, acting and improvisation.
The kids in the audience loved watching their favorite storybook characters appear in the dream sequence, and their favorite kid actors too. Whether your child wants to be a performer or not, they will love watching other kids putting it all “out there” onstage. My 3.5 year old, 2 weeks later, is still asking me when he can join the ensemble. Though he can’t try out for it yet, he can enroll in their summer camp or classes. Right now, he is practicing his dancing at home- and that’s what TADA! is all about. Encouraging kids to dream, achieve and learn through discipline and practice…and tons of fun.
How to enter: Tell us your favorite way to get your baby/kid to sleep…. (Singing seems to be my only method).
You have from now until Friday, May 14th to enter. I will announce the winner on Friday, chosen from random.org. Good luck! (P.S.- put your entry in as a comment at the bottom of this post)
Wide Awake Jake runs through May 23rd at TADA’s new production: Wide Awake Jake

After taking turns reading the pages of a book, we say a prayer and then my three year old yells turn on the “muskick” mommy. I turn on Alicia Keys’ new album and she sings herself and the five year old off to sleep…a lot of nights anyway.
My husband sings a prayer to my son and off he goes to dreamland.
I whisper in my kids ears a made up story usually about themselves as the main character about something they are looking forward to such as a coming birthday party or a play date.
Stories. We have now progressed from picture books to childrens novels minus the illustrations, for my 3 year old. I find that if she closes her eyes and uses her imagination, she drifts off far far quicker………
3 books and 2 songs work like a charm for my 3 year old!
My 2 yr old daughter Claire and I read four books (one of them is usually Wide Awake Jake–her older brother is named Jake) and then sing songs in the rocking chair. She sings them all and corrects my mistakes!

Routines work best here. Lights off in most rooms, followed by teeth brushing, followed by pajamas and story. Sometimes my fussy toddler forgets to “put up a fight” when I offer her the chance to turn the switch off by herself. It’s the little things…
I can’t get her to go to sleep at a set time, she resist sleep all the times. She will be 2.5 in June and I am hoping by 3 sleep will be an easy process for all of us.
Almost since my twin daughters were born (they are now six years old), I’ve been reading to them, followed by singing three or so songs to them, usually from a Broadway show. Edel Weiss from the Sound of Music is a given, followed by two others from our Broadway repertoire — Somewhere (West Side Story), Sunrise Sunset (Fiddler on the Roof), Where Are You Going? (Godspell), Where is Love (Oliver), Corner of the Sky (Pippin)….the list goes on. Now that they are older, they take turns every night selecting. The one who doesn’t pick the songs gets to pick the order. And now, they read to me before bedtime instead of me reading to them.

I love this! So sweet! I am going to try this.
My favorite way to get my 2 year old daughter Scarlet to sleep is by telling her all the fun things we are going to do the next day. I tell her when we get up that I am going to make her blueberry pancakes( her favorite) and then pick out a fun outfit to wear. Then either go to the park or library, paint pictures or trace our hands and feet on paper. She usually giggles a for a while.
But then finally gives in because the sooner she goes to sleep the sooner she can wake up and have fun!! It works all the time!
Thanks
