The 6th KidsFilmFest whose mission is to discover, expose, and promote children’s filmmakers while drawing worldwide attention to Brooklyn, is having a showing this weekend. kidsfilmfest is the new project of the Brooklyn International Film Festival (BiFF). Their film program is tailored for children of all ages (films are rated “G”). It consists of numerous short animation, live-action and documentary films. A Q & A with the filmmakers and a filmmakers workshop usually follows the programs.
Details: kidsfilmfest will be on Sunday, June 13 at indieScreen in Williamsburg at 1pm. Tickets: 10$ adult, children 12 and under are free. A couple of Mo Willems films will be shown (Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and Knuffle Bunny Too) and also one about the Gowanus Canal among others. The longest short is 11 minutes with most of them between 2 and 6 minutes.
The New York International Children’s Film Festival will have a showing of Sita Sings the Blues at IFC. This 1.5 hour movie is pretty amazing- I have seen part of it. Roger Ebert gave it “four stars! I was enchanted. I was swept away. This is one of the year’s best films.” For a full summary of the film, see IFC’s home page.
