As you may know, we are facing major  MTA bus route changes and cuts.  The B71 is slated to be completely eliminated- which is essential for residents of Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Cobble Hill for access to the “cultural heart of Brooklyn.”

Here’s the info on where and when to join the rally at 5 pm on Wednesday.

From Cobble Hill Blog:  At the corner of Union and Smith Sts. this Wednesday, June 23rd at 5 pm, there will be a rally in support of the B71 bus. The line is a vital link between Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens and the cultural heart of Brooklyn – the Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and of course the natural splendor of Prospect Park and the Botanic Garden.

From The Word On Columbia Street: Columbia Waterfront and Red Hook residents, workers, Etc. are invited to meet at the B71 bus stop on Union (b/w Columbia and Hicks) in time to catch the 4:51 bus over to the main rally that is happening on Union and Smith. Please bring signs that display your favorite B71 destinations (I.e. Prospect park, Brooklyn museum). Ideally, if enough people show up, it will make for great photo opportunities on the bus ride over and represent how these cuts will impact our neighborhood.

Brooklyn Heights Blog posted the official press release from Brooklyn Borough President Markowitz on today’s protest against cutting and eliminating buses.
