Fort Greene/ Clinton Hill has always had a shortage of preschools. This fall, there will be a new one to help offset a tiny part of the demand.  The new preschool, The School House, will enroll children ages 20 months to 3 1/2 years. The founder and director, Audrey, has experience in starting a new school- specifically in Fort Greene. She co-founded Trilok Preschool and served as Co-director and teacher of the 2 – 3 year-old class. She has  a Masters degree in childhood education, and a NY State teaching certificate.

The location is near Fort Greene Park, on Saint Felix St. between DeKalb and Fulton in the garden apartment of Audrey’s home. The class size is 8 children, maximum, with Audrey and an assistant teacher, a visiting art teacher, and later a visiting music teacher and possibly a cooking teacher.  The emphasis will be on ” easing the transition between home and school, developing healthy social relationships, and learning through play and artistic expression.”

The school hours will be 9 to 3, Monday through Friday.

She is accepting inquiries now and scheduling site visits for after Labor Day. For inquiries: send an e-mail to: theschoolhousebklyn@gmail.com or call (917)579-3327.

  2. Audrey was my daughter’s first preschool teacher, and her calm, gentle, warm manner really eased the transition to school for all of us. I’m thrilled to hear that Audrey is striking out on her own! The School House is a wonderful addition to our neighborhood.

  3. Audrey was also our daughter’s first teacher and it was wonderful to have such a kind, gentle but structured influence for our girl. Audrey teaches in a calm, loving manner — which put us at ease leaving our child in her care.

  4. Our preschool experience began in Audrey’s garden apartment at St. Felix: she has been the first teacher of both our son and later our daughter. We consider ourselves lucky to have had her as our kids earliest teacher, love her creative and thoughtful approach to early childhood education and regard her highly. Her calm consistent way of teaching small kids to function in a social environment are outstanding, and she is a wonderful, caring person.

  5. Audrey was our daughter’s first teacher. She has been wonderful to introduce our daughter to a pre-school environment and the joy of learning and socializing.
