A Child Grows Event Picks: Nov. 20, 21
Hi and thanks for reading!

1. The best of the best: I have to start my Event Picks with the art show of Fred Tomaselli’s work at the Brooklyn Museum. This is a wonderful retrospective of this artist’s hyper-detailed and beautiful work. My children SCREAMED when they entered into the first room of the exhibition. I mean it. They screamed and then spent the next hour examining all the paintings up close to identify the macro details of embedded pills, collaged ears, arms, bird and mushrooms. I’ll go back to visit again on my own, with no screaming.
2. For theater: I wish I could say go get tickets to Egg and Spoon at the New Victory, but it’s been sold out for weeks, so instead, check out Squirm Burpee’s Vaudeville Circus. Serena did a review of it for us here. We (2 moms, 4 year old, 7 year old) loved the Gazillion Bubble Show: it starts out a little slow but gathers steam as he blows smoke bubbles, encloses kids in bubbles and ends with an intense laser show that is a heart-pumping rave-like performance. This show is really best for 4 year olds to 10 year olds. I would recommend Angelina Ballerina- we are going to see it a second time. For our full review go here.
3. Other recommendations: Icky Fest at the Brooklyn Museum sounds like gr0ss-out fun, the holiday train show starts at the New York Botanical Gardens this weekend, the Police Museum has a junior detective day that I would even like to participate in as a Law & Order fan, and lastly I would recommend the Gustafer Yellowgold show at Symphony Space.
