Greenpoint Williamsburg Youth Soccer League

During the 2002 World Cup, I worked for a tiny company in the basement of my boss’  home in Park Slope.  I had two companions working there: a Russian cook and a Honduran cleaning lady, both 20 years my senior. On a couple of those World Cup mornings, work would temporarily stop and the three of us would stand and watch the match on the office TV. None of us had much in common and the language barriers between us were at times comical, but the fact that we came together to watch a match between countries which none of us had a particular rooting interest was fascinating to me.

This spring you can introduce or refresh the international language of football – or soccer – with your children, but like many recreational pursuits for kids…time is short if you want to register for spring sessions. This is also the time to start thinking about summer soccer classes and begin registering for those as well.

Where to play:

Fort Greene Sports
mail@ftgreenesports.org

Registration begins April 17th at 510 Clermont, next to the Brooklyn Tech football stadium between Fulton and Atlantic. Bob will be inside the Brooklyn Transitional School building from 9:30 to 11:30 or so to take. Email Coach Bob Byer for more details. If you’re interested, they are starting a tennis program for kids, too

Young Rock Soccer Academy
http://www.youngrocksoccer.org/default.aspx

Registration for this Ft. Greene-area league begins April 18 for both Spring/Summer and Summer/Fall sessions. All kids ages 4-16 are welcome. The seasons are 15 weeks long with first running April 25 thru August 2 and the second running the next 15 weeks again. Sessions start at $300 if you’re new to program and the jersey is included. It’s $250 if you’re returning and already have a jersey. There are other discounts if you sign up early. They play at Brooklyn Tech High School’s field.

Brooklyn Italians Soccer Club
http://www.brooklynitalians.org/index.html

This started as a men’s club team in 1949. After much success winning trophies all over the U.S. and the world, the club has steadily expanded its youth soccer program. They offer an academy for kids 4-10 to learn the game. They also have competitive teams starting for kids Under-8 up to the men’s U-20 club team. Registration continues for the academy April 12-16 from 2-5pm and April 17 from 10am-4pm. Academy schedule begins April 18th at the Dreier Offerman fields off of the Belt Parkway.

Super Soccer Stars

This is a huge operation with locations all over the tri-state. Many options are available in Brooklyn and registration for spring is still ongoing…but you better hurry.  For ages 2-12, there’s a soccer program for you. Prices range from $240-360 (that’s for the advanced group) and sessions are available Monday-Sunday. Fields are mainly in Brooklyn Heights, with a few sessions meeting at Prospect Park, some at South Oxford Park and some in Williamsburg. Find the session that fits your needs and sign up online. Spring season starts April 12th. Summer registration is also currently available.

Soccer Fun For Kids
http://www.soccerfunforkids.com/

Coach Campos says on the website that this is a fun way to learn this beautiful game. Learning anything is better when it’s fun, right? Spring registration is open for ages 3-5. Classes are $20 a session. You can sign up for as many as you like, though there is a minimum of 5. They meet Wednesdays at the Parade Grounds next to Prospect Park. On Saturdays, they meet in Prospect Park. Sunday, look for them in Washington Park at 4th Ave. and 3rd St. Classes begin April 10th for the Spring session.

Brooklyn AYSO District 473
http://www.brooklynayso.org/index.php

The Park Slope/Prospect Heights branch of the American Youth Soccer Organization, finished registration last month. This outfit is highly recommended on user review sites and also quite popular. So popular that they begin registration for Fall season in May so visit the site or call.

KidsMove Soccer from KidsMove Sports

It’s pretty late to register her for spring, but there may be a few spots available for kids ages 4 to 10. Try for summer registration too.  The price is $125 and they meet Saturdays at Prospect Park.

Marine Park Soccer, AYSO for South Brooklyn
(http://www.aysoregion266.org/portal/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1), only runs a program in the Fall at Marine Park fields.

Greenpoint Williamsburg Youth Soccer League

The Greenpoint/Williamsburg AYSO is starting its league April 10. They play at McCarren Park. You should go to the website to see if there are spots available.

Patriots Soccer Club
http://www.patriotsunited94.com/intramural.html

They’re started registration for their summer session last Friday. They offer several competitive and instructional programs. The intramural program in the summer allows kids 3-13 to learn in a non-competitive environment. They play mainly at the parade grounds next to Prospect Park.

*****Some of these programs also have summer leagues, so if the Spring options aren’t meeting your schedule needs, inquire now so your kids can get involved as school winds down.

  3. I would like to inform you about a clinic being held at Aviator Sports & Events center. It would be greatly appreciated if you passed this information on to your youth team and contacts.

Aviator Sports & Events Center is proud to announce that Dutch Total Soccer (DTS) will conduct one week of soccer clinics this summer.
DTS is a soccer training organization led by outstanding professional trainers from the Netherlands.
DTS focuses on high quality training, available for soccer players of all levels.
DTS trainers are graduates of the C.I.O.S. Academy, a 4-year sports college, or the KNVB Academy (Royal Dutch Football Federation) and all have a UEFA B license or higher.
The real difference in the DTS training lies in the methodology that the Dutch are world renowned for; all training sessions are segmented and made level appropriate. DTS trainers are not merely soccer coaches, but true teachers of the game.
DTS has been operating in New Jersey since 2001 with great success and now has come to Brooklyn, New York to expand and share the DTS training methods with even more athletes. The partnership with Aviator Sports & Events center combines a world class facility with world class training.
DTS will currently be offering a one week clinic at Aviator Sports & Events Center.

    CLINIC INFORMATION:
