Update: Costs of getting to the airport from Brooklyn with kids- what works?

I wouldn't mind traveling with these suitcases!

Nothing is easy anymore (as we all know), but we adapt, adjust and actually love this crazy ride known as life with children. Part of that adapting is trying to figure out the cheapest and easiest way to get to the airport vs. driving and/or using parking services or public transportation. We uncovered some local cabs, asked about parking and determined if the MTA is the way to go. We hope this will help your pre-travels and make at least one component of your flight a little easier. We would also love to hear your transportation and kids experiences in the comments section.

  2. I need help! I am traveling from Kansas City to Newark with my twin 4 year old boys. Rather than bringing their car seats, I need to rent 2. I am finding the only place to rent car seats is with a car rental company and you must have a car rental reservation. I do not need a car, just car seats to put in my friends car. Any suggestions? She lives in Park Slope but is picking us up at Newark. Thank you in advance!

  3. HI Kevin
The pricing was based on a Ditmas Park location so it depends on where you live. I called Legends today and inquired again but this time from a Fort Greene location: the price is $35 plus car seat. Does that compute with what you are paying from your location?

  4. I am curious where you got your pricing info? We use Legends regularly from Park Slope and have never gotten prices that cheap. Just Fri the basic car from EWR was $75 after you include tax, tip and all the fees. AND that was without car seats. I do agree that Legends is one of the better services but the prices above do not seem accurate. If they are let me know how to get them!

  5. Hey Meema
We used Angelo when we had the blizzard- and this guy was fabulous! He called to wake my MIL up for the pickup- carried her bags to and fro and she reported that he was good company along the way. What a great find- thank you!

    Readers’ comments:

Thanks for the write-up, Serena! Another great car service option is Angelo, a one-man operation with both a toddler and an infant car seat. He’s a real sweetheart and totally reliable for both pick-ups and drop-offs. I can’t remember his rates to LGA & JFK, but you can reach him at 917-892-2273. – Meema

Public transportation is good option to us. From Cobble Hill, with a ~$15 price tag for a family of 4, and it takes us about 1 hour and 15 minutes in average! (Elevators at each train station). Cheaper and greener . And just a bit longer… – John

The way we always get to JFK is the LIRR (about 7.50pp) + Airtrain (5.00)=12.50 pp (with our toddler free). It’s an easy walk from our house, the train is so nice, one adult is in charge of the kid in the stroller and the other is in charge of the luggage. (we usually rent a carseat when we get to our destination, which is worth it in convenience).- Cristina
