The first of 4 concerts put on by Carroll Park this summer

Friday June 10th

7:00 pm: SummerStage Dance: Passion of Tap
“Foot music” aficionado Omar Edwards, who’s collaborated with Alicia Keys and Common, heads up a diverse tap performance that runs the gamut from solo sequences to a full-cast dance drama and a freestyle jam session.

Saturday June 11th

10:00 am: Roof Dance Relay with Trisha Brown Dance Company
Head to the Highline and learn from the Trisha Brown Dance Company about various styles of dance. Later in the day, families can return to watch the choreographer’s 1971 work Roof Piece, which is being performed atop surrounding buildings (5pm).

12:00 pm: The 13th Annual Staten Ireland Irish Fair
Festivities include live local & international Irish music, refreshments, a 40 vendor shopping village which provides Irish imports and gifts and vendor food. Also Sunday.

12:00 pm: Kinderdag Children’s Festival
Spend the day exploring the toys, houses, food prep (cookie stamping and waffle making) and stories of colonial times while listening to music from Louie Miranda.

12:00 pm: NYC Festival of Young Artists and Leaders
Over 200 artists between the ages of 12 and 21 will perform at this collision of art and culture. Youngsters can make street art, play games and watch dance, music, theater and even circus performances by local groups.

2:00 pm: Brooklyn Folk Festival
A weekend of Old-Time, Ballads, Blues, Pre-Blues, African, Bluegrass, Author-Vocalists, Mexican, Caribbean, Balkan and more!  The festival starts Friday and goes through Sunday.

4:45 pm: School of Rock Comedy Rock
Students from the School of Rock play funny rock (Spinal Tap, Weird Al, Flight of the Conchords, etc ) at Arlene’s Grocery.  Also Sunday.

Sunday June 12th

11:00 am: Baby Got Bach
During this introduction to classical music, kids will practice making noise with real instruments that tykes can try out. Afterward, renowned pianist Orli Shaham performs with members of Ensemble ACJW, followed by a turn from the Tessera Quartet. Also 1:30 pm.

11:00 am: Puerto Rican Day Parade
For more than a half-century, tens of thousands of costumed musicians, baton twirlers, school groups and cultural organizations—not to mention some 3 million spectators—gather to honor the Big Apple’s Puerto Rican community.

2:00 pm: Jazz for Kids with Amy Cervini and Friends
Amy Cervini will get little feet tapping with her upbeat, kid-friendly jazz tunes. More courageous musicians can play along, while more timid virtuosos can just sit back and enjoy Cervini’s feel-good compositions. Either way, your tot (and you!) can learn something new about jazz.

2:00 pm: Scandia Symphony Concerts
Listen to the works of renowned Scandinavian composers performed by The New York Scandia Symphony and guest artists while you enjoy views of the Heather Garden, Hudson River, and the New Jersey Palisades.

4:00 pm: Carroll Park Kids Concert Series: AudraRox & David Weinstone
The family-focused summer series kicks off with rockin’ sets from two New York City favorites, AudraRox and Music for Aardvarks founder, David Weinstone.

7:00 pm: Taikoza Drum Performance
Japanese “Taiko” (roughly translated as “big drums”) make the sort of booming, organic sounds that will thrill the entire family. The Taikoza drum group blends the heaving Taiko and the fairytale sounds of bamboo flutes with colorful and graceful traditional dances.
