Kids in NYC have access to so many fun playspaces and learning centers. One of our local favorites is the Brooklyn Children’s Museum where kids can enjoy multi-cultural performances, creative workshops, interactive activities and various hands-on exhibitions. This summer the museum is better than ever where you and your family can enjoy Free Friday’s, a Wild Water Weekend, an extension of the Taste of Brooklyn and so much more! Please refer to the summer schedule and let us know what performances you will check out.

Summer Hours: Open Tuesday- Sunday, 10am-5pm. Closed Mondays
Member Mondays begins July through September from 9am-1pm

Free Friday Family Jams

African Rhythm Tap
July 8th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm

This is a great event for older kids as they get to check out a live performance of African rhythm tap. Featuring Irene Koloseus’s Feraba, Andy Algire and an ensemble, the act will feature sounds of tap dance set to the rhythms of African drums and percussion.

July 15th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Soul Understated

Expect this skillful ensemble, adeptly and seemingly effortlessly weaving together soul, jazz, funk and gospel, like so many threads in a tapestry, and Ms. Poole does not miss a beat, adding scat and exotic vocals to the mix “like the final spices in an excellent gumbo.”

July 22nd from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Third Rail Projects: Through the Looking Glass

Through the Looking Glass is a cutting edge, re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic “Alice” stories. Designed and staged under the direction of Bessie Award-winning artists Zach Morris and Tom Pearson of Third Rail Projects. This visually stunning, meticulously designed and choreographed experience puts a new spin on the idea of site-specific performance and public art.

July 29th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Brooklyn Arabic Music Trio

Featuring traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern music, the Brooklyn Arabic Music Trio including Amir ElSaffar (santour, vocal, trumpet); George Ziade (oud, vocal); and Zafer Tawil (violin, qanun and percussion).

August 5th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Cirque-tacular

The circus will be brought to you in Cirque-tacular. Bring the family and reignite your belief in human potential. Featuring aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, illusionists, contortionists, trapeze artists, this exciting event is definitely something the whole family will enjoy.

August 12th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Flamenco Vivo – Carlota Santana

A Spanish dance performance, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will include traditional flamenco while also pushing the boundaries of the art form in new directions.

August 19th from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Sounds of Deliverance

This exciting event features a performance by Fred Staton, a 96-year-old saxophonist who keeps busy with frequent tours to Russia, Scandinavia and Asia. This interactive performance is designed for kids of all ages.

August 26rd from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm
Charles Moore Dance Theatre

The Charles Moore Dance Theatre, founded in 1974, will feature a colorful program of African, Caribbean and African-American influenced dance.

Wild Water Weekend


July 30 and 31 from 10am–5pm

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s own version of the popular show “Survivor” where kids will have to build a model boat to escape the island. Other highlights of this exciting summer festival will allow kids to learn about water science and water conservation.
