While this weekend seems light on the music events, Charles focused on some of the highlights:  the Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s Free Friday Night Jam, Wave Hill’s party and Summerstage’s Family Day. Enjoy the beats as summer trots along!

Friday July 8th

10:30 am: Mundo Niños
Check out a musically diverse performance with songs that incorporate multilingual lessons about culture, nature and math.

11:00 am: Weekly Sing-along with Lloyd Miller
Lloyd’s energy, humor, and wonderful music always entertains and educates children and adults at his weekly sing-along.

6:30 pm: Free Friday Night Jam: Irene Koloseus’s Feraba: African Rhythm Tap
Feet of all sizes will move to the swinging, syncopated sounds of African rhythms guiding this Brooklyn-based tap troupe. All ages.

7:00 pm: The Alex Levin Trio’s Friday Night Jazz Shows
At this weekly jazz jam, children under 16 can bring their own instruments and let loose alongside the band for a few tunes.

Saturday July 9th

10:00 am: Family Art Project: Resounding with Feet
Get up, get out and get down with this celebration of dance in the scenic woodlands and gardens of Wave Hill. Bronx dancers Yvette Martinez and Nancy Friedman from ¡Retumba! take kids on a fun frolic through the grounds, where they can come across a surprise carnival or dance to their own beat.

Sunday July 10th

2:00 pm: Joanie Leeds and the Nightlights
The spunky singer will perform tracks from her newest, all-about-animals CD, What a Zoo!. In addition to critter-obsessed tunes, Leeds will also sing whimsical songs from City Kid in honor of the museum’s current exhibition, “Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a crazy world)”. Ages 3 to 8.

3:00 pm: SummerStage Kids’ Family Day
This jam-packed fest features an eclectic lineup, including musical sets from 90s alt-rock band The Verve Pipe, performing songs from their recently released debut album for families, and Oran Etkin, a clarinet player and creator of the jazzy Timbalooloo music classes. The Zany Umbrella Circus along with European circus arts master Oko Skolo premiere the brand-new Mirette’s Circus, based on the children’s book “Mirette on the Highwire.” Another don’t miss: the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers performing the kid favorite “Hoop Dance.”
