Kudos to Town Square for upping their family programming every year. We’ve been watching them grow for the last five years- and are really impressed. Town Square is a volunteer community-based organization in Greenpoint and Williamsburg that is sponsoring two awesome programs this summer. SummerStarz is an annual music and movie series that debuts this Thursday night. The program setup is always the same: an interactive evening of arts/crafts, games, followed by live music and then a family-friendly movie that both adults and kids will enjoy. The second program is free morning concerts. Although they are doing only 2 of them this year, we hope they will increase them as their funding multiplies.

SummerStarz
A fun free program for kids and families, SummerStarz includes an evening of arts and crafts or various activities provided by Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Road Runners Club, Brooklyn Jazz Rebellion, and the Boy Scouts of Brooklyn. The interactive evening also includes music performances at 7pm by some local children’s performers like the UnderSea Explosion and Rug Bug and fun activities like Town Square Chess and Summer Science, Zumba and yoga taught by teachers from Usha Veda Yoga. The movie starts at sunset with an exciting line-up featuring kid-friendly flicks like Megamind, Free Willy, Mary Poppins and much more! See schedule below for specific movies and performances. Townsquare and Greenpoint YMCA present TWO FREE concerts

Ballet Los Pampas – August 19^th at 10:30am
Free concerts by Taikoza, a Japanese drum concert and Ballet Los Pampas, a musical tango act that will take place at McCarren Park. Organizers recommend that you bring a towel and a hat for the heat. If it rains, the concert will take place at the Greenpoint Y (99 Meserole Ave between Manhattan Ave & Lorimer Street.
