Friday August 26th
11:00 am: Drum Beats & Little Feet
Little movers look at artifacts, many of which feature figures in interesting poses, and create their own music and dances.

2:00 pm: Goldilocks and the Three Polar Bears
Part of Fringe Jr., this 45-minute rock-n-roll musical combines puppetry and comedy to tell the story of a spoiled girl who learns the importance of family.

6:00 pm: Free Friday Family Jam at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum
Eight Fridays (July 8 through August 26) this summer with free admission between 5pm to 7:30pm with exciting performances on the museum’s rooftop each week. This week see the Charles Moore Dance Theatre.

6:30 pm: Target Passport Fridays: Venezuela – Queens Museum of Art
Head out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for the Target Passport Fridays at the Queens Museum of Art International Outdoor Film, Dance and Music Series. This week travel to Venezuela and experience the dance and music program featuring Los crema paraiso and Big Mandrake!

7:00 pm: The Alex Levin Trio’s Friday Night Jazz Shows
At this weekly jazz jam, children under 16 can bring their own instruments and let loose alongside the band for a few tunes.

Saturday August 27th
11:00 am: Afro-Punk Festival 2011
This is a free two day festival featuring some of today’s best musicians of today including Cee Lo Green, Santigold, Janelle Monae, Fishbone, Das Racist, and many more. Also Sunday.

12:00 pm: Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson
Celebrate the birthday of the dearly departed Michael Jackson, in this day-long celebration of the man, the myth and legend. The event is hosted by Spike Lee, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks*, Spike DDB & The Republic of Brooklyn at the Nethermead Theater. Music by DJ Spinna.

5:00 pm: Nou Renmen Ayiti! (We Love Haiti!)
We are celebrating the history and culture of Haiti through song, dance, storytelling, and costume. OUR FOLKLORE is dedicated to preserving the many folkloric art forms of Africa and the Caribbean. An evening full of engaging activities that will allow children to explore one of the many cultures in our community!

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of music and dance as families watch a performance by artists from the New York Chinese Cultural Center. Kids will enjoy the colorful Ribbon Dance and Kung Fu demonstration.

3:00 pm: Bhangra Kick and Flashmob
Celebrate India’s Independence day with NYC Bhangra. Bring the little ones out for an afternoon where they can learn Bhangra—a traditional folk Indian dance—and listen to the sounds of acoustic Dhol drummers. Afterwards, you’ll want to take a seat on the sidelines for the Flashmob that will take over Union Square.
