Hopefully everyone is safe and sound after Hurricane Irene. Since we spent most of the weekend inside we are excited to enjoy some outdoor activities this week like the Vienna Music Film Festival where you can sample some Austrian food and listen to musical classical performances. As the summer is winding down we are also excited to take a ride on the  Carousolar at South Street Seaport, listen to some music at the Rocking Chair Music Series at Caribou Baby and check out one of the last outdoor movies with Toy Story 3 at Betsy Head Memorial Playground. GE Carousolar at South Street Seaport

GE’s solar-powered twist on the family favorite carousel is landing in New York’s South Street Seaport for the month of August. Beginning August 3rd, kids can take a free ride on the “Carousolar” while moms and dads can charge their mobile devices with one of GE’s solar-powered charging stations. Visitors can also check out lots of new and innovative things GE is currently working on in the solar space. GE’s Carousolar is powered by 100 solar panels and lit by GE’s very cool and colorful TETRA Contour LED lights. Details: South Street Seaport Fulton St at Water Street, New York. HIP play

Still Hip has daily playgroups in their fun playspace. Participants are simply asked to help set up and clean up the space, but there will always be someone in the store to help. Waterfront Workouts in Brooklyn Bridge Park: Gentle Stretch

The Dodge YMCA brings its Gentle Stretch class to Brooklyn Bridge Park. This hour-long stretch class focuses on posture, core strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Limited mats available. Vienna Music Film Festival
The Vienna Music Film Festival includes a selection of classical concerts and opera performances recorded at many of Austria’s, and Europe’s, most prestigious music venues. This fun date night is also a great way to sample Austrian food vendors and view classical performances at sunset. At the event, there will also be a drawing at the concert to win a trip to Vienna. Babies and Books at the Central Library
A fun way to bond with your baby and meet new parents is through the Babies and Books program at the Brooklyn Public Library. The Rocking Chair Music Series is a weekly acoustic music event for kids and adults at Caribou Baby. This week musician local mom and lead singer of Las Rubias Del Norte, Allyssa brings her ukelele to sing songs from Beatles and the Sound of Music as well as familiar kids songs. McGolrick Park (9am-12pm) the book mobile will be parked on Monitor in between Nassau and Driggs in Greenpoint. Sternberg Park (1-2:30pm) the book mobile will be at the corner of Leonard and Boerum Avenues. At the Book Mobile you can sign up for a library card, borrow, return books and do some crafts.
