Check out this fabulous citron? fabric on this old subway car

One of our favorite places to explore, learn and spend time with our kids in Brooklyn is at the New York Transit Museum. This glimpse into the city’s past is a fantastic place to view old buses and trains as you learn more about the city’s extensive and deep transit history. Parents and kids scramble onto the old trains, where they can check out the vintage fabrics and designs that make these cars truly fascinating to view. If you have a budding train conductor or bus driver, they can steer and shift to their heart’s content.   The museum also has a series of exhibitions, tours, educational programs, and workshops that are FREE with admission. Our picks include Subway Sleuths (see more about that below) and Transit Tots, a weekly drop-in program.

  1. GREAT info- thanks so much for letting us know.

  2. Even better: join the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and get free admission to the Transit Museum (and hundreds of other kid and science museums) through reciprocity

    http://www.astc.org/members/passlist.htm
    http://www.childrensmuseums.org/visit/reciprocal.htm

Reciprocity includes the NY Hall of Science, Staten Island Childrens Museum, and the kid museums in Garden City and Stepping Stones. It also works at the Please Touch Museum in Philly, and for 4 days only, at the Liberty Science Center. It is an awesome benefit that gets buried in the membership details.

  3. Thanks Vinny- glad you liked it. Nice to hear from you. Karen

  4. Great write up. The transit museum is one of my favorite places. I have not been there in a while and am due for a visit.
