Now that the temps are dropping and fall is the air we are excited for winter activities and sports like ice hockey. Many facilities in NYC offer classes where kids can learn the basics of skating, how to maintain balance, puck-handling, the basic skills for the game and how to work in a team. Here are some facilities we found that are offering courses very soon!
Aviator Sports and Events
Aviator Sports and Events is a fantastic space in Brooklyn to enjoy a variety of sports (flag football, rock climbing, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, etc). They also have an excellent ice rink where you and your family can take figure skating lessons, enjoy public skating and ice hockey. Through their Youth How to Play Program, kids 4 to 15 will learn the basics of proper skating and stick-handling, shooting, passing, and speed. This 10-week course is $275 per player and all levels of experience are welcome.

This program also runs until March – so your child will be getting an extensive and long program as they learn about hockey. They also have a holiday mini-camp that is designed for kids ages 6 to 18 during December. Through this program ($485.00), kids will receive an intensive on-ice instruction, goal tending training and lunch!

Classes can be broken into 10 ($390), 15 ($555) or 20 ($700) classes. Another program they offer is Hockey Training that is designed for kids 5 and up. Through this 60-minute class, kids will develop the skills necessary to play ice hockey such as stick handling, passing, shooting, skating and working in a team. They also have a Junior Rangers Youth League where kids 6 and up will learn the basics of game play with coaches explaining and reinforcing the role of each position.
