Baby Bites puts on luncheons, seminars and events for new and expectant moms. You can meet other moms and hear resources on topics like: sleep, potty training, sibling rivalry, how to make baby food, etc. Events are in Park Slope, BOCOCA, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Williamsburg and Bay Ridge.
I have really enjoyed BabyBites, it’s a great way to get out and meet other mom’s and learn something as well.
-LiannaI am a new mom that has been attending the Baby Bites luncheons since January when my daughter was only 1 week old! I had heard about the luncheons from a friend who lives in Manhattan. I thought they were supposed to just be an opportunity to meet other moms over lunch but they have been much much more. The topics have been very interesting and diverse on everything from “mastering sleep” to “best classes for mommy and baby.” It’s been a great experience for me and my daughter – I highly recommend Baby Bites to new and expectant moms!

Brooklyn Postpartum Depression Support Group
http://www.brooklynppdsupport.org/
We are two moms of young boys who each struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety. Molly has a master of social work degree from Southern Connecticut State University, where she conducted research on peer support and also co-led psychoeducational groups. Chris has been a phone volunteer through Depression After Delivery and The Postpartum Resource Center of NY since 2002 and is a postpartum doula with the Brooklyn-based Birth Day Presence. We established a peer support group in Brooklyn in 2006 as a place where pregnant and postpartum women can get support if they think they are at risk for PPD, are experiencing symptoms and need further help and resources, or are in the care of a therapist and want to attend the group as part of their treatment plan. The group is free, meets twice monthly (usually on the second and fourth Sunday of each month), and babies are welcome to join us.

New Mothers Support Group with pediatrician and psychologist
145 henry street – Brooklyn Heights
718 858 4924
This group is moderated by Dr. Silverblatt and Barbara Ciccone, PhD, psychologist and it helps new moms to become parenting experts. Topics are anything from breastfeeding, sleep, the lack of, husbands and mothers-in-law. 6 sessions, $200. Call ahead for reservation as space is limited.
The group was really nice to have other new moms and also have a pediatrician (and mother herself) give her point of view and suggestions. There is also a child psychologist Barbara who is part of the group but I especially valued Dr. Silverblatt’s insight and of course the support of the new moms.
-Susan
I really enjoyed the New Moms Group run out of Dr. Silverblatt’s office on Henry Street in B Heights. It was comforting to hear other Moms experiencing the same insecurities as me, and wonderful to socialize with Moms whose babies are the same age as my son. It was also great to get not only Dr. Silverblatt’s views, both medical and as a mother herself, but also those of Barbara Ciccone, a psychologist and mother. I wish the group had continued for more than 6 weeks ! Dr. Silverblatt’s number is 718-858-4924 to find out when the next session starts (approx. every 6 weeks).
-LisaI started the group when my son was 6 weeks old and I wish I had started it earlier- even at 2 weeks. It was such a great course. We were given literature that was helpful and had discussions on everything- including sleeping and feeding. Dr. Silverblatt knows every technique for getting a baby to sleep through the night. She will answer anything medical. She also tells you funny anecdotes that help you see what lies ahead. She is extremely practical and human. Barbara (the psychologist), handled the more psychological and emotional aspects of parenting. It was a really good balance. You really learn from the babies that are older and from the women who had tried techniques and just hearing what they had experienced already. I am still friends with nearly all the ladies. We bump into each other and have dates to keep in touch. For an unbiased and most extensive base of knowledge- go to this group.
