Boing Boing is my favorite local shop because they have packed an amazing amount of really helpful items into a small space. Karen has done a great job picking merchandise. I went there every other day when my baby was first born for pumping supplies, bras, clothes, books, etc.

Boing
461 7th Avenue (between Winsdor and 16th Street)
718 840-5880
Since 1996 Boing Boing has served pregnant moms in the Slope. Find the perfect nursing bra, sling & breast pump & make life easier. Sling classes at store! Breast pump rentals. Owner Karen is a lactation counselor and store owner. She has created a sanctuary at Boing for nursing moms in mind- it is a great place to sip water, nurse and chat with her. She has a nursing circle every Wednesday at 11 am. Babywearing workshops every Tue 4-6 pm, $10.00. They demo carriers, and you can walk out with one that day.
I know there has been some grumbling about this store in yahoo user groups (all to do with the salespeople)- I think this place is a terrific asset. They have a variety of nursing supplies, bottles, nursing bras and slings. Sometimes I have had a saleswoman or two that wasn’t really knowledgeable, but, as of late, that seems to have been remedied and I would highly recommend this neighborhood store. (Plus they have great maternity tees.) UPDATE: I went into their new store Boing and met Karen, the owner. She is really fun to chat with, she had some helpful nursing information, showed me what was good about what kinds of bottles, and generally shared all her information generously. I had a great time- and so did Birch as there were a ton of toys to play with.

Finally we got a good maternity store in Brooklyn! I just visited this elegant store and was impressed by the varied selection of sexy and comfy nursing bras and nursing/sleeping wear. I wish they had been around when I was first nursing. Also, they had beautiful, breezy summer blouses and delicate summer dresses. Nice tanks and tees too. The atmosphere was very soothing, with chairs, books, creams and even a selection of slings for your partner to try on while you try on some clothes. The prices are standard for maternity wear. UPDATE: Being pregnant the second time around I went back to visit Bump. The saleswomen were so helpful and fun. They entertained Birch the entire time I tried on clothes: playing peekaboo and drawing. Meanwhile they swept in and out of my dressing room with suggestions, new sizes and helpful practical advice. I found a lot of great things here- yummy tshirts and tanks were on sale at a great price and they had a lot of staples I found helpful. The jeans were awesome- great styles to choose from.

Your source for specialty toys and baby items.
The people working here are incredibly knowledgeable about strollers, car seats and major purchases. I wanted to try out a car seat in our mini cooper as I wasn’t sure what would fit in the car. One of the salesman lugged 2 car seats 3 blocks to my car to try them out. After figuring out which one worked, he installed it and gave me time to nurse, get organized and return to the store on my own time to pay for it. I have come back many times for their suggestions for toys, backpacks and feeding utensils. They know their stuff! They have all the parts you need for nursing supplies.

Kids RX

189 7th Ave
Brooklyn, NY (Park Slope) 11215
718-369-6100
The hours are 8:30-7pm on Mon-Fri. 8:30-5pm on Saturday.
You can order everything online and then have it delivered to you! Amazing!
Kids RX will take any medicine you have and make it into one of their 800 flavors. 800! They will prepare any flavored medicines for adults, children and pets. The owner, William Brownstein, came up with this idea of masking medicine in flavors and textures. He can make medicine into: a lollipop, pudding, spaghetti sauce, gummi bears (most popular) and transdermal gels to wipe on a forehead if a patient can’t swallow, and anything else you want. I asked him what the favorite flavors were: vodka and peanut butter. Vodka flavor is for the adults of course. The owner, William Brownstein, was more than happy to discuss his place. This man practically walks on air. He is brewing with enthusiasm, optimism and energy. He also owns a Kids RX in the west village. He guarantees that he has every medicine in stock or the cost of it is on him. They accept every insurance in the U.S. or he will buy the medicine for you. The pharmacy will deliver anywhere in Brooklyn. I asked him what the minimum was for delivery: “a q-tip” he quipped. He even offered to pick up a quart of milk on the way for someone if they needed it. Yes, this is for real. They do also carry infant and newborn items like feeding tools, sippy cups, pacifiers, etc. They have the high quality health and beauty products and gift items too. They have an adorable train room in the back. They sell and prepare homeopathic medications. They carry Bioron products. They do vitamin preparations. You can order everything online and then have it delivered to you! Amazing!
-KarenWe’ve been having to give iron drops to our almost 18-month-old and it’s been a massive struggle. (I tasted them myself and it’s like sucking on a rusty nail.) Poor kid gags, chokes, vomited once. I heard about Kids Rx and gave them a call. Bill, the owner, was great. They’ll fill rx’s for kids & grownups and can flavor them ($5 charge). Bill was happy to take the iron drops we’d purchased elsewhere and flavor them. He made one grape batch, one chocolate batch. As he suspected, the chocolate was better at masking the bad taste. He really knows his stuff. (They also have a great train table in the pharmacy, which made it hard to leave with my son. “More choo choo! More choo choo!”) I can’t say my son enjoys the drops, but he tolerates them now. I just wanted to spread the word about Bill and Kids Rx. They also deliver throughout Bklyn. (Helpful, since I live on the other side of the park.) Absolutely no affiliation, just a happy customer.

I just visited this store for the first time and fell in love. They have great design products, plus very fairly (if not some of the best) prices for toys and nursing supplies. They also have a comfy couch for nursing and a great table and selection of clean toys for children to play with. The video player wasn’t there when I was, but I understand they show a “tasteful” selection of kid’s videos. The changing table was clean and the bathroom induldgently huge! The staff knew their stuff and couldn’t have been friendlier.

Stork Store is owned by Stephanie Watson-Campbell, a practicing doula. The Stork Store is a new Brooklyn based, full service baby boutique offering products and support to families. Stephanie offers merchandise and toys chosen based on her years of experience as a birth and postpartum doula, lactation counselor and a childbirth educator. As a new mother she is passionate about making sure the items she offers are safe, eco-friendly, and appealing to both children and their parents. The Stork Store also provides practical support in the form of childbirth education classes, doula services, and various parent and child activities as well as pre-natal yoga and post-natal Pilates. Her aim is to make the Stork Store a community resource.
The final resource I want to suggest, is both a store, the Stork Store http://www.storkstoreNYC.com and the owner of that store, Stephanie Watson-Campbell, a local doula, childbirth educator and lactation counselor. Stephanie said she realized that her neighborhood was in need of a cool, hip and comfortable place for support, supplies, and classes and she created the Stork Store, on Manhattan Avenue in Williamsburg, to fill that need. They carry a wide variety of products for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum including, baby carriers, breast pumps, nursing bras, birth pools, cloth diapers, cool toys, and much more. The store also runs several classes though out the week. Some of them include a breastfeeding circle that takes place on Mondays, Mommy and Me tea on Tuesdays, music classes for all ages, childbirth education, cloth diaper and sling workshops (taught by me!), baby sign language, and more.
-Megan DavidsonI’m a fan of the Stork Store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The owner Stephanie is super sweet and it’s a great place to pick up a present for a friend’s new baby, to get breastfeeding support and products or to pick up a new sippy cup, baby leg warmers, or a soft cuddly for my girl.
