Soho Parenting’s sleep program has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Child Magazine and AlphaMom TV. They have a basic plan (1 session with consultation, a personalized sleep plan) and a comprehensive plan (pre-visit questionnaire, session, personalized sleep plan, 5 ten-minute follow-up phone calls).

We went to see Jean, doing the basic plan- and success! Jean was amazing- so easy to talk to, laid back and calming. She really listened and helped us understand how we could help our son sleep. He was sleeping 12 hours after 2 nights of training, and his naps were extended and predictable after 8 days. Basically, the method was “crying it out” with some check-ins.

Deborah Pedrick
http://familysleep.com
Deborah has a son, created and managed a “sleep training” advice and support board for “Parent Soup” at ivillage. In 2002 she created and started Family Sleep and has worked with hundreds of families. She works with families in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. She lives in Fairfield County and consults with families either by phone, email or face to face.

After a year of strolling my daughter for her catnaps– I easily logged 2-4 miles a day! — I was
emotionally and physically spent. Understandably, I was desperate to get my daughter napping in her crib, but all of my prior attempts at daytime sleep-training had resulted in near-hysteria for us both. So it was with a heavy sense of sketicism that I contacted sleep
consultant Deborah Pedrick. I assumed what I was going to be told — let her cry it out — and it seemed like a lot of torture to put us all through just for one or two 30 or 45-minute naps. But since my desperation outweighed my discouragement, I emailed Deb.Right from the start, Deb eased all of my worries. She patiently explained how crib sleep is more
restorative than stroller naps, and how my daughter’s snoozes would eventually lengthen in duration to –Gasp! Could I even dare to believe? — proper two-hour naps. She also explained how rather than making my daughter feel abandoned, per my fears, I would be re-setting her expectations about how we handled naptime. The crying would be out of confusion, and as
her expectations changed, her confusion (and thus her crying) would abate. Two months later, I can attest to the truth of Deb’s teachings. My daughter is in the midst of a two-hour
crib nap as I type. While things took a little longer than Deb predicted to reach this point, her methods were ultimately far less torturous and more effective than I expected. I recommend Deb and her services wholeheartedly.

Dream Team Baby, LLC

NY, NY 10036

Dream Team Baby is an infant and toddler sleep consultancy based in New York City. Sleep services are available for children up to the age of 2 years. Consultants can either 1) give families with the tools to teach their own children how to sleep or 2) stay overnight with families to help them with the sleep teaching process. Common problems resolved include multiple night wakings, early morning wakings, resistance to bedtime and/or naps, sharing a room with others, and sleep teaching multiples. The Dream Team Baby founders, often referred to by clients as “miracle workers,” gained their expertise through a multi-tiered process. They took what they learned as new parents, recruited a board of leading child and family experts, and together with their advisors created a unique and safe approach to helping children sleep. Today, their team helps children (and their parents) across the country get some much deserved sleep.

I actually went to one of the Dream Team’s seminars as well as Urban Nurture. I definately learned something from both but I felt that the Urban Nurture’s session was much more informative. The ladies from Dream Team seemed a bit “corporate” if that make sense. The information that they discussed seemed a bit obvious and stuff we read all the time, I just wasn’t impressed and actually was a little bit disappointed. The lady from Urban Nurture seemed very seasoned in the topic and answered questions very thoroughly. I did visit the Dream Teams site and apparently they are fairly new to this subject. So, given that both of them have spoken at the venues and probably will again if you had to pick which one to go to I would recommend Urban’s seminars, really impressive stuff .

Janet K. Kennedy, Ph.D.
Clinical Psychologist
917-834-0107

We hired Dr. Kennedy to help us with our 2.5 year old’s sleep issues. When we called her, less than a month ago, our son was coming to our bed every night around 12 am, and would ONLY nap in a moving vehicle (stroller or car) so our weekends were spent driving around Brooklyn during the middle of the day. Today, within only a few weeks of implementing the sleep plan, our son is sleeping from 8 – 6 in his own bed (which we moved him into during this plan) and naps for 2 hours in his crib every day. Not only is he sleeping better but I am as well :) I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kennedy. Not only did her plan work but she really was there with us the whole way as a supportive guide. Every time issues came up, and setbacks did occur, she would provide advice and work with us to develop customized solutions. She even helped me work with my health insurance company to get some reimbursement. Since she is a clinical psychologist (which many of the sleep consultants are not), many health insurance companies will cover part of the cost. I would recommend that if you have sleep issues that you would like resolved, it is worth it to contact Dr. Kennedy even just for an initial discussion to see if you think she can help.

Janet helped us with our 6 month old. Our baby had been sleeping in our bed but we needed to move her into a crib and also help her learn how to go to sleep on her own. Janet suggested an overall plan that included gentle, manageable steps. As this was our second child and last child, I had a hard time having our baby move from our bed…and Janet provided emotional support for that. As we progressed through the steps, Janet was there the whole time via email and phone. At times, I felt like she acted not only as a sleep consultant, but as a cheerleader and therapist. She is a trained psychologist so you can tell this informs her advice. In the end it took us a good 2 weeks to get night sleep and day naps under a predictable routine. (Our baby is now sleeping 12 hours at night- and two 2 hour naps!) It didn’t involve a lot of crying, angst and stress. It was a gradual process that Janet worked on with us along the way. Her advice was always thoughtful, informed and nurturing. I think she creates a unique, tailored approach for each family.
